How awesome is that!
Great picture.
Wow!!! I go birding a lot at a nearby wildlife refuge when I’m home. It always makes my day when the bald eagles are there. So majestic whether perched or in flight and so exciting to watch. Especially when they are on “the hunt”. The closest I ever got to one was when I was going to a viewing blind and happened to look up just before getting there. No more than thirty feet up perched on a branch was this mature bald eagle staring right down at me. Slowly brought up my binos to get a close up look. Those piercing eyes looking at me was something to remember. I stood there looking at him for at least ten minutes and it never took it’s eyes off of me. I gave up first, thinking “Yep, Mr. Eagle is one badass bird.”
Very nice. A wet eyes moment.
Bad-****in-Ass!

What a moment captured, speaks volumes in so many ways.
Awesome!
More like the photo of the year. I wish I could have taken that picture. Amazing. This is now my desktop.
If my desktop wasn’t my wedding party with guns including my father, this would have been my new desktop. The photo is amazing, haunting and surreal all at the same time and with too many implications to discuss. Quite frankly, if I was there with a camera I’m not sure I could have taken the photo, it would seem almost sacrilegious to do so. I would feel privileged to simply be a witness to such an event. At the same time I’m glad somebody did take the picture.
Images like this, where everything is there, are incredibly rare. I’ve viewed only a few moments like that in my entire life. Things seemingly so profound they drag me back a few steps from existentialism.
Very cool photo and story.
When I read this yesterday the first thing that came to mind is when we were discussing how you can’t believe every photo you see these days, subsequently had little doubt it was faked. Remarkable to know that it wasn’t.
When I first saw it I assumed the same and sourced it. I posted it knowing others would find what I did.
Anyone seen this pic in high-res (1080p+)? I really want this as my desktop background.
I saw a signed, large presentation-grade framing of it in person. It dominated the room.
As much as I really like the picture and hope it’s real, looking once more something about the right side headstone shadows looks off. Shadows are constant no matter where you stand so I can’t help but conclude all should look the same.
Thought it would be appropriate to bump this back to the top for Memorial Day.
Good pic, good story, and good bump!
I don’t break down, ever but having just returned from Arlington to pay my respect to family and friends resting there this picture pushed me over the edge.
