I didn’t know Phili was such a lefty haven of stupid. So much for the rights of a private business can do regarding the safety of their employees. You can’t have uns, now can’t have bullet proof glass “cuz the feels of criminals” and communities that tend to support them vs ostracize them. More PC/SJW crap run amok. What will happen is many shop owners will close shop and leave, making the neighborhoods even more depressed. Just as banning law abiding people from having the ability to defend themselves, this too will back fire on them. Per bold, can they? What’s the law compared to Boston or NYC or DC where it’s close to impossible?
Philadelphia City Council approves bill to remove bulletproof glass from storefronts
Storeowners on Thursday pleaded to keep the bulletproof barriers on their storefronts.
"I was the victim of a robbery when I was ten years old, and I don’t want that to happen again,” one storeowner told Fox 29.
Another shopkeeper, through an interpreter, said: “If you took the bulletproof glass from our store, there will be more people die.”
City councilman David Oh had similar sentiments, calling the possible outcome of the situation “worse … than what we have today.”
“If we take down the safety glass, they’re not changing their business model. They’re not moving. What they will do is purchase firearms. I think that is a worse situation than what we have today,” Oh said ahead of Thursday’s vote.
Didn’t even know it was a thing. Philly has always been lefty but not as bad as others. There’s always been a democratic mayor but overall it’s been rather conservative when compared to other lefty cities.
Right now huge sections of the city that were traditionally ghetto have been gentrified. What was once crack houses and crumbling building is now $800,000 homes and $400,000 lofts. Places like Northern Liberties where 15 years ago you wouldn’t want to drive through now you can’t move into for under $500k. This may be an attempt to gentrify those remaining areas.

I’m apparently not smart enough to make the connection with bulletproof (misnomer) glass, unless Philly PD’s SOP is to shoot out windows before/during a raid.
The world is full of idiots, why does Philly City Council have such a high concentration of them? Hmmm, maybe, unprotected shop owners will close their stores leaving these neighborhoods with fewer or no places to shop.
The suburbs. Where they drive down property prices and force the working class out and into those gentrified neighborhoods. Odd how certain folks can make a killing in real estate. Buy the ghettos for cheap and sell them to the white flight crew. In a decade buy the cheap suburbs from the rats and then resell to the next white flight crew. Funny how that works isn’t it.
To places that were considered good neighbourhoods before. In the city it’s the far Northeast - Far Northeast section. Or to some of the shitty surrounding townships and counties.
Some of the suburbs. There’s quite a few they wouldn’t be getting into. Southern and Western suburbs are worse and we’re already ghettos way before. Chester and Darby have been bad from long ago. But then you hit northern ones, especially middle and upper Bucks County and you won’t be just moving there right out of the crack house. Not unless you hit the multi million dollar lottery. Basically the suburbs that traditionally bordered the ghettos have themselves been ghettos for a long time. The suburbs that didn’t didn’t are typically affluent and rich. Some exceptions of course
Not necessarily idiots, examine their motivations. If your voting base is predominantly one race, and a lot of them incidentally are violent felons, but their relatives always vote for you… vs. a different ethnic group that doesn’t vote for you and which you don’t care about… just maybe you’re going to favor the voting base.
What you are going to end up with two way video to replace the glass and a pass through for objects, or self scanning. TVs are cheap, plus you just lock the doors if someone jacks with the camera or TV.
Live just over the bridge and know the city well, although you certainly don’t have to in order to see what a political cluster %&^$ this is. Could happen in any metropolitan area, just that we decided to test the waters of ultra-stupidity first.
There was a time in this country where they had Stakeout Squads who got to look like dirtbags and toted .45s, .44 spls, pumps or sawed off double barrels who would hide out in the back of jewelry stores, banks, stop and robs, or hock shops during crime waves and handled business.

When I was stationed near DC, new neighborhoods were forced to put crappy housing in nice subdivisions. Can I not choose where and who I live with?

What are the penalties for refusing to remove it? I what to know because you can have all the laws you want, but if there are no penalties…
On another note. If I had a business in some of those areas, I’d be like, “I can’t have bullet proof glass? Okay, full ****ing armored plate wall with a little speaker, a camera, and an itty bitty slit for you to slide the money through.” And my ass would get boycotted as racist inside of 20 minutes.
But seriously, there are convenience store chains that in certain areas clerks get what amount to hazardous duty pay for working in the stores. Keep it up and what is going to happen is the, it is better to ask forgiveness than permission and people are just going to start carrying to protect themselves. I knew clerks who did in the past who would have gotten fired on the spot, but their ass was worth more than the job and they just keep it on the down low until they could get out.
