Permanently attached suppressor?

I understand that it’s possible to have a suppressor permanently attached so that you can have a suppressed rifle with overall barrel length in the 16" range without it being registered as an SBR.

Is this a sensible thing to do, though? I’ve never owned a suppressed weapon, and don’t know if you have to be able to remove the can for effective cleaning or other maintenance. Is it even possible to buy barrel/can assemblies without ever having to possess an SBR?

The background is that I’m curious about the possibility of a suppressed carbine as a supplemental home-defense weapon, but I live in Alabama - where suppressors are legal but SB-anythings are not.

Absolutely not.

If I were in your situation, I’d perm the mount from an M4-1000 or M4-2000 to a 14.5" barrel.

I used to shoot with a guy who permanently attached a Tac16, he could pull the baffles out through the front and clean it, and it was still past 16". I’m not reccommending it, I’m just saying it’s an option.

That would work. In that case you wouldn’t be dumping all your bore gunk and cleaner into your baffle stack.
