Meanwhile, if anyone, including scientists with the creds to do it, even mentioned perhaps covid came from a lab vs market, they were called conspiracy nuts, etc. by their own gubment entities. So, we have a Chinese bio weapon - be it released by accident or intentionally - that killed millions globally, we partially funded, and that’s not something we are supposed to talk about. They seem determined to destroy any credibility they had with the 'Murican public. Instead of making some chit up to annoy China, why not have the DOD and their considerable resources uncover the source of covid and expose them to the world? That would be far more effective if hassling China was the goal.
Shit going on inside of this country and DOD psychological activities against foreign competitors are two wildly different things. Why TF is this even news?

For so many reasons.
First too many power brokers from the US are heavily invested in China to hold them accountable for anything.
Second, China is really good at locking down info, people and keeping secrets. They will kill thousands without a second thought to prevent sensitive info from leaking out. Look at what they did with Tienanmen square, now consider what they’d be willing to do to prevent being held accountable for Covid.
Third, we kind of already know most of this stuff anyway but the REAL global catastrophe is Israel taking it to Hamas. People just don’t give a shit UNLESS somebody is killing terrorists then everyone cares.
And finally, screwing with them is about the only real capability we have. Despite an actual “mutual defense treaty” that was in effect from 1955 to 1980, today a president can’t even formally recognize Taiwan. And with Bill Clinton giving them permanent favored nation trading status (which apparently is more binding than a mutual defense treaty we signed) we will never really hold them accountable for anything. Our economy is so globally intertwined with theirs I don’t think we could ever divorce ourselves from China let alone make them accountable for something like Covid.
Even when we were the good guys during WWII we were still willing to cover up past deeds even if it meant giving complete immunity to those who performed bio weapon tests in occupied countries like Japan did with Unit 731 or hiring those with serious nazi ties to run our space and weapon programs after the war.
