I find this hilarious because of my experience with electronics. A clock would be simply a circuit board, with a few chips, wires, and 7 segment displays.

So this kid is smart enough to build a clock, yet not smart enough to have the foresight to know how itâd look to others in todayâs climate. WTF??

I call BS. The response from the school and the police directly contradict their actions. If you even remotely think something is an IED, you donât touch it, much less take possession of it. You evacuate the area and call the police. If the police think the item could be an IED, theyâre going to establish a safe perimeter, stand up an incident command post and let the bomb techs deal with it.
Did they do ANY of that? No. Iâll bet the farm that the school and the PD responsible for the school have established SOPâs for suspected dangerous devices. Iâll bet they didnât follow their own SOPâs. The kid told them it was a school project, never made a threat with it and didnât leave it unattended.
If I were this kidâs lawyer, Iâd eat them for lunch. 
My initial thought when the teacher retained the clock was, âWTF, why would you do that?â. Then I remembered that theyâre teachers.
Remember, in schools, you canât even eat a pop tart into the shape of a gun without getting your ass into a sling.

The funniest, saddest part is that the movies that featured âbombsâ that look like this were all made and in theaters before this kid was born.
I agree with glocktogoâs comments that the school and police actions are not compatible with any actual belief that this was dangerous in any way. More like the pop-tart handgun idiocy.
@Ryno, #1 kids donât have the same judgment as adults even if they are smart, and #2 I think itâs idiotic that anyone would think this was dangerous. See my first comment about this sort of âbomb timerâ being from movies that were played before the kid was born. He wouldnât have context. It would be like some kid seeing a scene in a movie where two clothed adults are in bed smoking and not understanding the implication (from standard tropes decades ago) that they had just had sex.
