So, I’m guessing you blew off the paper insert in the box to avoid the SA battle packs. I did too until the first round ripped the rim off the case and FTE. No real problem getting it out (hammer + rod), but took a while to find the rest of the rim (buried in the bolt group). Needless to say I haven’t run any of that through the gun again.
FWIW, I think the challenge with the .308/7.62x51 not being as popular as the .223/5.56 comes down to standardization of the magazines - you’re either AR-10 compatible or DPMS compatible. Most everything in .223/5.56 will run STANAG mags, whether AR platform or not.
I’m actually a bit surprised to write something positive about DPMS but my experience with LR-308/AP4’s are actually very good. I’ve put several hundred rounds through a few of them with no issues. Accuracy, with quality ammo, was 1 MOA or better out to 300m. LR PMAGS work great. Reliability was good with no stoppages. I would replace the grip with a MIAD and the sr-25 insert if I had one.
Having said this, I would avoid the ‘sportical’ line.
