Quick look at LWRCs website and I didn’t see ™ next to REPR anywhere, so maybe not.
DPMS could have been a little more creative though… unless they came up with it first…
Although it’s not all that surprising, they did use SASS as well.
REPR (Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle) and SASS (Semi-Automatic Sniper System) are NOT commercial terms, but rather U.S. military designations–multiple vendors could have produce rifles for the REPR or SASS programs…
So anyone can make a SCAR too? That’s kinda cheesy.

DPMS is not held in high regard around here. Look up “the list” for more info why. I don’t have a DPMS so I can’t speak with any authority on the subject.

In fact, quite a few companies submitted SCAR rifles for the trials, including Cobb, Colt, Diemaco, FN, HK, KAC, LMT, Robinson Arms…
DPMS 7.62 guns aren’t quite on the same low level as their 5.56 guns. They are generally OK, or can be made to function well with a little massaging.
I would rather have one of these than the “other” REPR that nobody can get to work right.
Now is this just because there is a lack of competition for this rifle?
You would thing that the 5.56/.223 should be their flagship. If the 5.56 DPMS is crap (not quite as good as it should/could be), why would I want to risk more of my hard earned money on something that could end up being even more expensive crap?
If the DPMS REPR’s are gtg, I will gladly stand corrected. Like I said, I dont have a first hand knowledge of the gun.
There is a definite lack of competition, I think coupled with the fact that people don’t run 7.62 guns like they do 5.56 guns.
For a semi-auto precision rifle they can be made to work really well. I like them better than the AR10 because they take SR25 pattern mags.
I’ve had nothing but great success with my DPMS 16" LR-308. Over 7K+ rounds down the pipe with no malfunctions. Been using South African surplus and some old Winchester 147 grain FMJ. No FTF or FTE. Based on opinions here, DPMS is at the bottom of the pile. Maybe they produced sub-standard product in the past, but the three rifles (2-5.56 and 1-7.62x51) I purchased in the last 3 years have been 100% reliable. When I purchased the 1st 5.56, I immediately ordered a BCM BCG based on everything I had read here. I was surprised when it arrived and I compared the gas key staking. The DPMS mirrored the BCM. I’ve ran the 5.56 versions now for over two years with no issues, including Wolf ammo. I agree that updating the BCG with upgrades from BCM and others is a good idea (not only with DPMS but others such as Colt as well). In three gun matches where Colts and others have puked, the DPMS ran fine. Operator error or lack of maintenance on the others? Maybe.
As far as hard use, there have been several days that the rifles saw over 1000 rounds fired with no malfunctions. Any rifle can fail on any given day, but I’ve yet to experience problems with any of the rifles. Buy a DPMS, upgrade the BCG if you need to, and spend the rest of your money on ammo.

Well yeah, I get that but it would seem to me that the company that was awarded the contract would be the only company to produce the weapon under that nomenclature.
Unless SCAR represents a weapons specification whereas any company which could meet the spec can call the weapon a SCAR.

Well I asked about the DPMS cause a wanted a affordable alternative to the SR-25. What does everyone think of the Remington R-25? Yes I know it’s a Crapmaster (Bushmaster) in Remington skin. I have one drawback to the R-25 It only comes in crapy realtree camo. Great if you live in the SE but not so great if you live in the NW.
there’s a few less expensive alternatives to the sr25, depending on your criteria… spell out what you’re looking for. what features do you want and why? whats the weapon for? what cant you live without, and what isn’t all that important… etc?
It’s actually a DPMS. You get a couple of neat caliber options (not really ones that anyone here would care too much about) but it’s just a DPMS with a water-transfer di and R stamped on it. Cerberus owns them as well.
R-15 = Bushmaster
R-25 = DPMS
After doing some looking around the LWRC 18" looks kind of interesting. When it comes down to it what I want is a AR type 7.62 rifle that will shoot in the very accurate at 500-700 yards. I want a well built weapon to learn long range shooting on and if I get back into big game hunting will drop back into that roll nicely. I’m sure that LWRC is not cheap when it comes to price, but neither is Knight. Besides I just made E-6 so I think I can find a way to afford it. 
Have you considered the LMT MWS? I haven’t shot one myself, but everything I’m reading about them is good. The biggest drawback to them appears to be the wait to get one.
I wouldn’t buy one, especially now that the LMT is available for not much more money, and it’s made by a company that is known for producing good guns.
FYI the USMC REPR is the KAC M110 SASS.
Which we are not going to go play the ghey name game with, nor did we do with the SASS shennanigans.
