About to order my DDM4 for my 5.56 needs, i have started thinking about my next rifle, and want something with some more range. I have about $3k set aside for rifle, optics, and possibly waiting for a silencer for it (this is not really being included in the $3k budget), and came across the Panther LRT-SASS, I l LOVE the way it looks, but am not familiar with DPMS. Upfront I will say I dont have the knowlesdge to put together an AR upper/lower combo myself, so looking one a complete rifle package.
So how is the quality? I am no marksmen yet, this is going to be my first entry into the “Sniper” style rifle, so I want a nice one, but obviously cant break the bank, but I also want a fun toy. I am toying with the idea of actually getting a Suppressor for whatever 308/7.62 I end up getting to increase accuracy, so I want a rifle that works well with Suppressor. How does this one work with one?
Your thoughts and help are much appreicated. Anyone have any good recommendations on places to purchase one at?
I have two DPMS’s. On 5.56 and the other 6.8. I love them both. i havent had a single problem with either one. But I know that there are other companys that are better but for the pricese i cannot bet them. The only differences is I put it a DD BCG and a superbolt from AR Performace in my 6.8. But other than that it shoots both 1 moa or better with red dot sights at 100 yards. Cant ask for anything better.
I know the perfered method is piston for the silencer but it’s defiently no my expertise and I dont want to lead you the wrong way. Hopefully someone else will chim in.
I guess no one else really knows. I know that the suppressor will blow some gases back into the receiver. Have you tried AR15.com? You might have better luck over there
While I don’t have the Panther, I do own a DPMS in 6.8 Spec II. I am happy with it performance. The the last range outing I did a 10 shot group, at 100 yds indoor using just a muzzle rest. The group measured in just under 2.5", not bad for a production autoloading rifle.
The only mod I have done is changing out the trigger group springs, for a JP Yellows.
Oh I just remembered that there was a magazine article i think Guns And Ammo the “Book of AR-15” or the Sure Fire one and they said it was a overall a very good rifle. I believe its in this one. Ill check later for ya but Im 95% sure.
Thanks guys, a couple days ago, i scored a NIB DPMS SASS for $1950… Couldnt pass it up, it will do everything I need and comes pretty much how I would do it myself (except for maybe a trigger job), now in the process of figuring out which optic to put on for around $850
If you hurry, you can either cancel your order or return that thing.
For that money you can get a Noveske SPR or Larue Stealth upper, -and- an LT SPR-E mount. You might have even squeezed in some good glass if you were a smart shopper and patient, for little to not much more, depending on the combo.
Hey Congrats on the buy man. It will be a good one. Dont let anyone tell you other wise. I have two DPMS’ and no complaints about either. I also own a LaRue OBR. Yes there is better but there is always better, but if your happy about the decision thats all that matters. Hope you have lots of fun with it.
That is not a small amount of money and it is close enough to the cost of a LaRue OBR or LMT 7.62 MRP that I would recommend you continue to save your cash and buy the OBR or MRP (when it comes out). The additional cost will be worth it in the end.
While I am sure I could have built better, I had a chunk of change to spend, and the wifes approval at this time, so I just went with the LRT-SASS, it had everything i wanted, and was there… I just need to get a scope, and I will be done with it, well, besides actually finally getting to shoot it.
Like i said, i just dont have the knowledge to built one, reviews generally for this DPMS are positive, and i love the way it looked factory, so I cant wait…
Thanks for all your help guys, i will post pics once I decide on a scope
