Ive got a RTF2 G19 that i wanna throw a little paint on so my question is, with the texture on the RTF2 frame being so fine would the paint just cover it right up and pretty much have no texture left or would it still have the rough finish as long as i applied very light coats? I would be using rustoleum camo paint if it makes a difference
Always spray paint light even coats.
I wouldnt worry about it smoothing over the light texturing the frame has. With use the paint will wear off pretty quickly.
Ditto on that. The Rustoleum is pretty durable though. My friend has an xd that he did “ultra flat sand” and has had enough handling with it after putting 700-800 thru it after he painted it. Hasn’t peeld but it’s pretty dirty
What’s the purpose of the paint?

My guess is that the areas of the texturing where your hand makes solid and constant contact with will wear first, so you’ll have some high/low wear spots. But meh, who cares? If it’s just Rustoleum, you could always strip the paint and shoot it again with more paint later on.
The reason im painting is because its an LAV G19 and the FDE looks horrible. It doesnt look like any of the FDE frames ive seen in the pic thread, its baby poop green/brown. I like the way guns look when they have been painted its worn out
I’d gladly trade an xd9 for it that’s black. Just saying. Thought those were pretty sweet myself. I’d call that more of coyote brown anyways
I guess that makes sense. Can’t imagine its easy to get paint to adhere to such surfaces with any durability.
OP, you do plan to post before/after pics, right? I’d like to see how it turns out.
I just finished it about an hour ago, i dont expect the paint to be super durable but i like the worn look anyway.

Here it is all finished up. The scuffs on the grip are actually dust and wiped right off. In person it looks like it came from the factory as a black frame.
This was the first time ive ever completely disassemble a glock so it was pretty nerve racking but im happy with how it turned out.
Nice work. What kind of prep did you do? Did you use with Rustoleum or some thing else? I’d like to see how the paint wears from normal use.
Thanks, all I did was de-grease the frame, covered the SN, and went at it. I used rustoleum camo flat black and im sure it wont hold up too long since this is my CCW so ill get new pics up in a few weeks when its worn out.
You’d be surprised how well it holds up. Did my AK metal hunted with it, ar metal hunted with it. It’s no cerakote but it’s pretty tough. I’m in for pics later!
I painted my brothers bushmaster with it after it was painted a crappy tan color and its held up well so far, only reason i dont think its gonna hold up very long on this is because i carry it everyday. When it does get worn down real bad ill probably mist it with some O.D. green.
Are you thinking this photo might make some sensational gunsmithing disasters lineup? Looks like it turned out OK, but it seems strange to do all that work just to produce a black Glock.
If i could have got my hands on a black RTF2 19 from the start i would have done that but it was way easier to just get a LAV. When i bought it i had no idea how ugly glocks FDE was and it didnt take much work at all, i was done in like 15 min.
I am so glad I live in Alabama. The only thing I can’t get locally (my preferred store) doesn’t carry slot of taurus products. But they have anything else in stock always. Even kept the m855 on the shelf a few months back
