Paint for bare metal on AR15 barrel

Epic post. Needs a sticky. Needs saving for posterity. Waaaay too much dragon chasing. I have some toys but not crazy money tied up in either.

Like My SR25 does all a Remington does and my.

My slut colt is so named because it is down for whatever.

I sometimes hum and doodle that I only need 4 guns. I have toys and heirlooms but am over guns.

I’d rather go hog hunting and enjoy life than be some dude going on about how Colt is going to the dogs and being some lardass whining about castle nuts.

I care more about Bailey Jay and AOC. Dead stop. No sarcasm.

I have had guys over the years freak the F out that I put rancid Soviet ammo through my Kimber, take an SR25 in the woods when it is wet, and have run my Colt raw.

When it needs rebarreling I may just get a CQBR barrel and have a full time suppressor host for hogging.

I figure an MRP upper and and MWS lower for “putting away” is all I care to get in the future.

Improve yourselves, not your guns.

Some guys are collectors (guns and gear), some are shooters and some are a little of both…to each his own…but having guns and gear and not having some proficiency with those guns and that gear seems a bit sub-optimal.

Roger on all, makes sense. Appreciate the explanation as I’m NOD ignorant. So did not read it as a rant. Knew you probably had a specific reason given the past 6920 positions (ok, those were semi-rants, or at least the echo comments were  ).

I’ve always been a kiss carbine + aimpoint kind of guy, so I’m with you on the 6920 aspect. I went LMT lowers, and built DD based FFB uppers at the time because 6920s were still high/unobtanium back then.

As soon as the cheap 6920s hit I picked one up, and kept it stock with a surplus carry handle sight as the basic M4’ish pkg is pretty amazing even stock. Fun to shoot and hand it to someone to try instead of their dream rifle, and they nearly always comment on how fun and easy it is to shoot.

So I get your points

This.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years… when I’m shooting a lot - I couldnt care less about gear - assuming its quality (reliable/accurate/efficient).
When I take time off - I start looking at buying shit - a lot of which I dont need… start shooting again and realize I’d rather have ammo.

Ditto.

When I’m not planning my next range trip is exactly when I start shopping. It’s been at least 8 years since I was at the range and actually needed to change something.
