I have recently painted my AR (will post pics later) but the colors didn’t come out the way I wanted…
I just returned from the sandbox and I was wanting my AR to be desert colors/scheme. A base coat of tan, with a very light brown as a break up pattern.
I used Molson’s tips (shoutoutthanks bro) and the pattern turned out good, just not the color I was hoping for.
I used Krylon Tan, OD, and Brown. The brown is way too dark for what I’m looking for, like I said, I’m looking for an extremely light brown.
It sounds like you used the regular brown paint. I use Krylon’s “Medium Brown” when painting my rifles as it is obviously a lighter shade of brown. It’s hard to find, but I’m sure you can find some on the internet or maybe special order it from a local store.
Don’t be afraid to try colors outside of the camo line. They have plenty of other good flat colors in other lines. I’m going to give that textured stuff a try on the next rifle I spray.
I would have tried Rustoleum but I put in on my Safariland drop-leg holster(M9)for the box and was repainting it on a monthly basis due to peeling and flaking… I have since applied Krylon to the Glock Safariland and it is working much better.
