Anyone know much about the so tech Mission pack expedition? Looks like a good price at 170
Anything from SOTech is good. My Mission Pack is awesome, though a little large for a EDC bag. I use it for hauling extra gear, clothes and first aid supplies in my car.
I recently picked up an Arc’teryx Bora 80 and have been pleased with the comfort and adjustability. Found it at a local outdoor shop for less than $100 used and in mint condition. ![]()
Thats good to know on the so tech. I like the expedition one bc it’s got the place underneath that could hold a sleeping bag. I’d like to have something I could fit a small tent inside and a sleeping bag on the outside and hold all my gear for around 200
I would look at more “civilian” type packs for that price range. Any bag that will have the capacity, comfort, and the “tactical” look will be above that price range…only one I know of that is lower is the Kelty 4000 and that’s just because its on sale.
Are you talking about the falcon? Where’d you see it at for about 200? And this is what Im looking at: http://www.uscav.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=20170&tabid=548
It shows on SO tech site it’s about 4000 cu inches
The Kelty Falcon is going for $150 over at Botach. I was looking at it, but its a little heavier than what I want. I want to try to keep the bag under 5 pounds. But if I wanted a more budget bag that is actually made for longer range hiking, and it had to be “tactical looking”, then I would definitely go for the Falcon.
Just looking at the SO Tech (online and in person), I just don’t think the design leads to much comfort when a heavy load is carried…especially not compared to a “commercial hiking pack” like the Falcon is modeled after.
Just my opinion…
Awesome. I think I’m gonna call botach up today and place am order. That’s a nice bag especially for 150 shipped. My main concerns for a bag was I wanted earth tone and molle webbing to attach a few things

The Falcon 66 was the “old” model/name, and the Falcon 4000 is the “new” name.
A company on ebay called Altatac sells them through their ebay store for $130 and free shipping. I ordered one from these guys and received it in 3-4 days. Definitely more than enough room for my BOB essentials.

+1 on Altatac. That is where I got my Falcon. I have made multiple purchases through their Ebay storefront. They are GTG.
I’ve used Camelbak stuff for years.
My current GHB is a civilian HAWG loaded up with enough food, water and supplies to last me 3 days. I have 30 miles of urban / suburban sprawl between work and home.
My hunting pack is a HAWG 500 in foliage that I picked up this past year. It is packed similarly to my GHB and sometimes gets swapped out for that bag at times.
I’m supposed to receive the bag from botach Friday. How do you guys pack your sleeping bags? That’s the only thing I’m trying to figure out. Id like to have the sleeping bag In a durable waterproof bag so I could strap it to the exterior so I’d have more room to spare inside.
Also what sleeping bag would you recommend for ky? I don’t think I’ve experienced negative temps but a few times in the short 22 years I’ve been alive. So I figures a -10 or 0 would be a good bag
I shove it to the bottom of the pack. If I’m carrying something bulky that has sharp edges (like when I’m carrying a power supply/radio on an ARRL outing) I wrap the bag around the item and place at the bottom of the pack.
I like the ALICE stuff for good, cheap, durable storage. If you’ve got a bit more money and don’t mind looking tacticool then you can pick up Molle II Rifleman (read:USGI) packs all day long on the Bay for slightly more than ALICE costs.
It has a great frame system, is comfortable for extended use, made well, etc.
You can then add sleeping compression systems, sustainment pouches, and any other little Molle doo-dads your heart desires.
YMMV
