The federal government shutdown, which started Oct. 1, is the cause of the looming SNAP funding lapse. SNAP provides food purchasing benefits to low-income households. Conservatives have peddled the misleading narrative that Democrats are pushing for healthcare for illegal immigrants, and people commenting on the chart rehashed a similar talking point.
“Who is getting their EBT cut,” read the caption of an Oct. 25 X post sharing the chart, which had 3.1 million views as of Oct. 27. EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer, which is a SNAP payment system.
“Only 18.7% of EBT or food stamp recipients are American. Let that sink in…” read another post sharing the chart, seemingly mistakenly referring to the figure next to the word “Armenian”; there was no “American” category in the chart. “We are subsidizing foreigners on the taxpayers dime.”

According to the most recent USDA data available, from 2023, white people are the largest racial group receiving SNAP benefits, at 35.4%. African Americans are next, making up 25.7% of recipients, then Hispanic people at 15.6%, Asian people at 3.9%, Native Americans at 1.3% and multiracial people at 1%. The race of 17% of participants is unknown.
The same report found that 89.4% of SNAP recipients were U.S born citizens, meaning less than 11% of SNAP participants were foreign-born. Of the latter figure, 6.2% were naturalized citizens, 1.1% were refugees and 3.3% were other noncitizens, including lawful permanent residents and other eligible noncitizens.
Look we are coming off of COVID 19, RussiaGate, Hunters Lap Top, War In Ukraine and now the Government Shut Down, and now You want us to believe that the MSM tells the truth about any of this?

What I’m against is bureaucrats in Washington deciding who needs help then confiscating my money to give to them. It’s wrongheaded at every level. Deciding who genuinely needs assistance and delivering same is for family, friends, church and local community.

I am with you both on those in true need.
I just have a hard time believing that one out of every eight Americans needs help.
I think there is a ton of waste, fraud, and excessive bureaucracy costs (ie giving cronies/crotch fruit of cronies a good government job).
Why else would we need somewhere between 80 and 100 different federal programs to “help the needy”? All with boards, directors, and staff.

I’m retired and only about 1/2 of my income is reportable or taxable.
I could go down today and legally give them my data and likely walk away with Food Stamps.
The loop holes and technicalities make a lot of people eligable that really shouldn’t need to be.
The Net is open wide because the American People are understanding and generous.
But you can only be this generous for so long with someone else’s money before they begin to resent it.
We have to tighten our belts, if this thing haults for 90 days and gets a reset, I can certainly understand why.
Just because you can go down and milk the Government out of a couple hundred bucks of money you dont really need, doesn’t mean you should. Nor does it mean that doing so is morale or ethical.
But we all gotta ride our own horse.

As far as federal programs… I think it’s more about taxpayers not feeling the national debt being shoved up their collective ass, yet. But, what if the taxpayer was forced to pay for what Washington spends?
Hear me out. Federal tax receipts were $5.2 trillion for FY 2025. The federal deficit was a mind-blowing $1.8 trillion or about 35% + tax receipts. Think what would happen if each taxpayer got a separate Deficit Spending invoice for an additional 35% more of what they already paid in federal taxes. How long do you think the generosity of the federal taxpayer would last? I’d give it less than a minute after receiving the invoice.

I’ve always said that instead of taxes being automatically deducted from your paycheck the taxpayers should have to write a monthly check to the government. Then you would see a revolution in this country. Right now people just accept it as not really being part of their income instead of money being taken at gunpoint.

You know what, Folks have raised Hell about Tariff’s; but I’m not sure how if we get things on the right trajectory we couldn’t use them to pay off or at least reduce the National Debt.
The Thing about The Department of Education being in charge was, we’ve more than likely lost the entire concept of what Debt is to most people.
It’s not difficult to teach or understand, but it’s key.
Actually teaching a Life Skill like Money Management, showing how compound interest works and the reverse and worse paying off a Credit Card, would make great inroads to educate the Money Illiterate.
Once people get on board with these concepts, they can then understand the massive economy we deal with on a Federal level.
But you’ll get Algerbra II instead

Most people do not nor will they ever care about those things.
Most people don’t even care about what’s happening at their local school board but you expect them to care about Imperial fiscal policy? Come on my man, simply won’t happen.
Most care about their sportsball team, having enough money to get a new car every few years and to pay for Juanita’s braces. That’s it.
That’s why universal suffrage’s a mistake. It should be limited to land owning men at most, and hell I’d put a requirement of at least 10 acres owned and descended of an American family that has been American since at least 1900.
I agree with some of this but naturalized citizens deserve the right to vote. I have relatives who immigrated here legally and fought and died wearing a U.S. uniform in WW2, Korea and Vietnam.
