Overland Expo West '18

Just wondering how many wheelers / overlanders we have on M4C? Will any of you will be attending Overland Expo in Flagstaff this year? I bumped in to quite a few folks from IG and TOS (as well as other forums) over the last several years, and in most cases it was cool to put faces to screen names and BS for a while. :stuck_out_tongue:

If you’re wondering WTF I’m talking about you’re probably not interested anyways, but here’s a link to remove all doubt: https://www.overlandexpo.com/west/

I had one of the old original conqueror trailers  sold it a while ago though
kinda simplifying things
been on expo a long time

sadly never been able to go since I always end up having work durring it

Was planning on going but have to choose my trips this year and Overland expo lost out along with another trip. Hope to attend next year. Went in 2016 and had a great time. Well worth going.

I’m easy coast, and plan on going to the east coast overland expo in 2018.

I have some older G classes set up for overland and really want to make one one of these events.

I’m trying to make the east coast one. Missed it last couple of years.

Same, but I haven’t been active there since we were demoted to weekend warrior status a few years ago. Having kids really kills your traveling schedule and budget and limits where you can go, what you can do, and for how long. We still get out on a monthly basis to explore and camp, but pretty much all local stuff.

I ran in to that same situation last year, I had gone the last several years prior but missed it in 2017 due to another trip during the same timeframe. 2017 was the first year at the new West location, so I haven’t been to it at the Flagstaff Fairgrounds venue yet. I’m really excited to check it out this year.

yeah that idiocy
its gotten to the point of being pathetic

if you are like me family and so on yeah I camp at camp spots sometimes cause its easy when friends are going with us or they ask us to join or the fact there are cool things they are close to  hahahahahah guess I loose my expo badge of whatever

yeah the old place seemed to be a mud pit every year but I guess when you are so expo and worldly but plan on putting that many people into a dried lake bed and wonder why its happening year after year or the sever wind  guess its that Expo BRAIN  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

the REAL ones with the earth roamers and such you know us regular folk dont get it  hahahaha

this was the funniest thing to watch and if you listen to the comments near the end the one guy is saying
yeah that is the 3rd one of those I saw being pulled out of here !

//youtu.be/roHHWduRx4M

in all honesty thats cool if that is what one is into huge earthroamers etc… but the reality is who cares get out enjoy and no you are not part of the club cause of X or Y reason
dude with his coleman and subaru is just as much a overlander as that guy being pulled out

I like watching that Ronny Dahl from Australia youtube channel my kinda camping I reckon just out with the mates good times cooking eating not making to huge a fuss etc…

So incredibly true about the “real” ones. Funny enough, most of the “real” overlanders are just glampers with wheels. Meanwhile the more modest folks like us are out living it every single week if life permits us to do so.

Like any other lifestyle, many people just get in to it for the “look” or because it’s “cool”. It’s their money so whatever floats their boat is fine by me, but you know you’re talking to the real deal vs. a poser with a lot of time and money as soon as they open their mouth. When you eat, sleep and breathe it yourself, then it’s incredibly easy to differentiate hobbyists from the real deal.

And serious folks are intimidating to those who just want to look and act the part, so they talk trash. We see way too much of this in the gun industry too.

But I digress. I was there in 2015 with the crazy mud, but luckily we always camp off-site with other like-minded folks and avoided the mess most folks got stuck in. The crazy cold and wind in 2016 was unavoidable though, even up in the trees. We were camping with about 12 other rigs from TacomaWorld a few miles West of the lake bed and I don’t think anyone slept well that entire trip.

hahahaha so true
ditto the float the boat

I spent a month in Guatemala travelling by public bus and hitching rides sleeping with locals this was in the 90s when I lived in Honduras (Bay Islands) for a year so was in that neck of the woods so to say
riding public buses in the hills of Gutatemala had some pucker factor quite a few times  hahahahah thinking that is a LOOOONG drop as we are flying on the far left of the road cause they are going so fast around corners with horns blaring
me and 100s and 100s of other back packers (most all Euro or OZ) all doing the same thing all through Central America  amazed even back then how many camping/overladning/travelling/whatever in cars/trucks/buses we would meet and chat with etc…
fun times though
