Out of sight, out of mind - The reality of drone strikes.

http://drones.pitchinteractive.com/

How’s that for putting things into perspective? Not quite what I would call “precision accuracy” by any stretch of the imagination. Alas, you can only imagine what we would be doing if some other country were ‘bombing’ us with drone strikes all in the name of killing one alleged criminal or pink unicorn aka “terrorist”… ?

Nothing to see here - carry on, business as usual.

Also interesting to note that as soon as Obama took office, drone strikes increase by God only knows what %.

I’m not seeing the problem here. Pakistan is a good place for drone strikes.

175 children, 535 civilians, 47 ‘high profile’ targets, and 2348 ‘others’. We can just go ahead and call the ‘other’ category ‘bad guys’. Since the children were most likely civilian, they’re listed twice. Of the 360 civilians that were not children, I’m sure they were predominantly friends and family of people in the ‘bad guy’ column.

In WWII, we used to fly hundreds of B17’s over, and carpet bomb the fuck out of everything. Entire cities went away. I think everyone in Pakistan that didn’t get killed in a drone strike should be thankful for this new technology.

Some European journalist were digging into it few month ago. From what was in press here, they found out that since Obama took direct control of drone strikes, there was new policy implemented, that officially considers everyone killed by drone strike as “enemy combatant”. This cut down official numbers for collateral damage presented to public. It was then changed (because of some external pressure), that killed kids under 12 years old are not considered as enemy combatants. I do not know how legit this info is, but it made quite a stir in Europe (also among those who support US in WoT).

ETA Looks like site is using same data that was used for this publication.

Really??? Blowing kids up with high-explosives?

UBL was done right.

A life is a life. They are in their own land defending THEIR way of life and culture.

Who gives you or I the authority to disrupt their lives?

It’s THIS “busy body, I’m better than you” philosophy that is nailing our collective ears to the ceiling in the US.

You have NO reason to complain about the violations of your liberty here since you obviously do not apply the philosophy to ALL.

Its quite sad. We all know why he has a hard-on for them…its cheap and easy. and “effective”. If the targets ended up just being HVTs and fighting aged males crossing into A Stan who also happened to be armed. fine. A few of my liberal friends have posted the links on their facespace pages, but conveniently never mention Barry, just “our government”.

I find it extremely hard to believe that prior to pressing the little red button…the conditions of the target and the collaterals were simply unknown. I also think that the ISI enables this phenomenon, knowing that the actual targets will get smoked no matter where they are. So, surround them with innocents and let the americans implode.

Nothing to see here. Many of the those professed to be innocent civilians by the Pakistanis were rolling heavy with AKs, RPKs, and RPG’s in the moment before they ascended to meet Allah. That similar groups of douchbags were killed with their families after entering a blockhouse before the missile struck is the cost of doing business from their end.

Very well said.
Robert Pape who is a SME & done far more research than ANYBODY here has period. Documented in his compendium et alia.
There are a number of books & videos he has done that would be wise to research. His work is well lauded by SME’s like Steve Emerson & members of IACSP (International Association of Counter Terrorism & Security Professionals) etc.

Here’s a link to one of Steve Emerson’s books Jihad in America

Here’s part 1 (most here won’t watch it or do the research or read his book “Dying To Win” which is epic regarding his thoroughness of suicide bombings including Tamil Tigers etc.

Many people subscribe that by using Drone Strikes w/ collateral damage, it exacerbates the occupation or prescence & breeds more terrorism as the children learn whom killed their families. There’s payback for those actions & to think you can kill innocent people w/ impunity is shortsighted & disingenuous.

I see some Bravo Sierra from the usuals. Unfortunately their parviscience adds to the disinformation.

Collateral damage sucks but we need to remember where OBL was found chilling out down the road from the local military academy and a PD.

This does show that they are far less surgical than many assume. Everybody thinks drones are dropping smart bomb guided missiles that chase you down the street and kill only the bad guys.

It’s chilling to think that our current AG advocated their use on American soil.

I don’t know where this “surgical” bullshit is coming from. The Hellfire is primarily an anti-tank missile; you launch it, it hits shit, shit blows up.

That is the “assumption” of most people. I never said it was accurate.

Our drone program is WILDLY under-utilized. We should have dozens of drones flying over Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea at any given moment.

Take half of the fighter aircraft off Navy carriers and replace it with about 4 times as many drones.

Like I give a fuck about Pakistani civilians…

This surgical bullshit came from the way we used to do it, where we leveled the grid square.

What’s an ‘anti-missile’?

People like you are a bigger threat to this country than 99% of the people killed by these strikes.

Like the title says - out of sight, out of mind.

There are different variations of the hellfire, including anti-personnel.

That would be a bad idea giving that China is massing drones with the thought of using them to swarm aircraft carriers in any kind of conflict with the US.

Shit! Left out the “tank” part!

Their military can’t fly real fucking airplanes, I am not afraid of an aircraft piloted by any Chinese guy, sitting in a trailer.

There is a term for that kind of aircraft, it’s called a target drone.
