Optic cuts for 1911's?

Been wanting a smaller single stack lately.

Considering an alluminum 1911 style. 4.25 inch.

Are optic cuts an issue on a 1911 70-style? Still have a rear sight?

This would be my pick:

Interesting, thanks. Not sure how popular this system is.

It appears to only be available on their builds, though.

I’m interested in mounting an RDS on something like a Ruger 1911 4.25 in. w/alluminum frame.

Nighthawk will cut your slide for their IOS system.

I have the IOS cut on my NH but would not get it retrofitted. Last I asked NH the price was close to $800. The option on a NH build is less but still pricey.

The biggest benefit to the IOS is it sits very low and gives you the option to return to irons if you want. If you are not dedicated to RDS, that is a really strong plus.

The Chambers RDSMis another good option but you will not have the option to revert later. You’ll get iron forward of the optic, which is a matter of preference.

I sent one of my 9mm 1911 to Vulcan Machine Werks and they milled my slide and did a bang up job. Pricy but did a great job.

Cool.

Looks like you have some irons visible, good.

Haven’t had my 1911 cut yet but thus is what I’ll do. I bought an RMRcc to use. It will not require a plate. Its only about .03” wider than the slide. I’m going to have my dan wesson Valor cut. Its stl stl so refinishing isnt required.

I’ll have the rear sight dovetail removed. Im not going back to irons. My old eyes cannot focus on the front sight unless i have my special prescription glasses on, which i only wear for computer screen work. My normal glasses work with red dots just fine. I’m moving to dots for all my pistols.

I had a shop picked out but forget who it was. Have to search again.

I went with a DPO/DUO cut to give me the flexibility of plates (there are 2 places that do this cut, CHPWS or DSC, as far as I know). The NH IOS is nice, but they don’t have plates for the ACRO or 509T.

The DPO means you can run Dawson or CHPWS plates, or direct mount the DPP. This is the system that Staccato uses.

The Chambers cut is well liked from other forums. They do have a plate for the 509T, RMR, and Holosun K/RMS C.

Anyone seen an optic on a Ruger Lightweight Commander?

I would contact one of the “millers” and see if they have any experience with Rugers. Sounds like your heart is set on the Ruger, so I would ask the guys doing the milling.

Good luck Ron. And yes, my BUIS are visible.

Yea, that’s what I’ll do.

In the meantime I ordered a non-1911 .45 that is optic-ready.

Thanks.

Late to the party here but I got the chambers RDSM on my ACW. The NHC iOS is appealing to me as well, I like the irons being forward of the dot.

The IOS looks like a similar concept to the Agency Arms AOS system. Springfield put this system on their prodigy line.

I dont have hand on experience with either

Anyone have experience with the CHPWS cross plate?

Yes. On a couple Staccatos.
I’ve heard a lot of dissatisfaction with them on the Interweb, but I’ve had no issues. Zero.

What optic and plate combo?

One is for Holosun 508T the other for the 509T (closed emitter).
Both with Rear Sight.

What caused you to do CHPWS instead of going with DSC or even Staccato for the DPO?
