This will strictly be a range gun. I’m looking to possibly buy a rifle length AR and this particular model seems to fit my needs. What’s your opinions on this particular model? The one I’ve looked at has 1x9 twist rate, unthreaded muzzle (I may thread it later) with an A3 upper with an A2 carry handle.
I’d say only if you’re getting a great deal on it and you already have a capable defensive AR. It kind of depends on how you want to use it. As you’re aware HBAR 20" AR-15, kind of long and heavy. I’m not sure Id want to ge walking around with it or doing up drills but it’s probably reasonably accurate. I’d prefer a flash hider and flat top on any AR but if it doesn’t matter to you then that’s not an issue. Also decide if you’ll ever want to shoot heavier bullets i.e. 77gr Mk 262 etc. I believe the conventional wisdom is that 1:9 twist won’t reliably stabilize above 69 gr although someone has probably managed to do it. It might make a decent entry level rig for shooting Service Rifle but then again you might end up wanting to shoot the heavier bullets for that discipline.
If you’re getting it really cheap somewhere then I guess why not. However if you’re paying retail you’re probably better off getting a pre-ban configured rifle. FWIW there were police trade-in 6700s from CDNN going for like $800 last year. Again it depends what you want it to do and what you already have. It also might be worth considering that you could have a good range toy that’s also a great defensive firearm. I’m not saying a 6700 is a bad rifle it’s just not the greatest choice for self defense. New 6920s are going for $975 or so, just call Grant.
I’ve already got my carbine, so this would be more of a range toy. I rarely shoot anything over 62gr so I think I’d be okay with the twist rate. I’ll check cdnn for them. You don’t think Grant would ever carry such a thing do ya?
Call him he usually has all kinds of good stuff. He’s running great prices on Colts right now and is even doing some customization for people that want it.
The MT6700 is a very nice rifle. I have one, and I enjoy shooting it. Hell, it’s a Colt, hard to go wrong there.
Not that it makes a huge difference, but keep in mind that the barrel is NOT chrome lined.
FWIW, I paid a little over $1K for mine 2 years ago.
