I need some assistance…
I’ve always been a handgun kind of guy… Never big into rifles. I do have two PS90 carbines that I like. I don’t shoot rifles much, though. My first PS90 is 4.5 years old, and I only have a little over 1k rounds thru it…
I do know that I really hate cleaning rifles, and I do not want DI. I want to stay with some sort of piston setup… (that is a for sure deal)
I am contemplating getting something on the AR platform, as I’d like to get back to the 5.56 platform… I already tried the MSAR AUG (owned one for a while), and this time I want to stick with a major company after that experience.
The SCAR looks cool, but that’s more than I want to spend…
So, after doing tons of reading… I’ve been thinking about the Ruger 556 or one of the Sig variants…
As for the Sig… Comments on these seem to be all over the map… Some love them, some hate them. Some are mad that they didn’t do a direct import of the original version. Some claim that the gas system is the easiest to clean out of all the piston designs…
And, I see some claim that particular variants of the various SIg models are better than other variants., I know SIg makes a ton of different 556 variants. Is there one or two particular ones that are better than the rest? The Patrol model seems to be a fav, as it is reportedly less nose heavy…
As for the RUger - I’ve seen mixed stuff on this gun. I am aware of the redesign for the carrier tilt issue. It seems that current owners love the gun. And, from what I can tell - the people who have negative things to say don’t actually own one. They may just be repeating the issues of the 1st gen (before Ruger’s fix)? I don’t know…
The price is very attractive for this gun. I have a friend who just bought one too. Seems very nice.
However - I still see negative comments about it - especially claims that people start having issues around 3-4k rounds. The local gunshop tells me it is a good rifle for people who don’t shoot a ton of rounds thru their gun (maybe just go out 1-2x a year).
So, anyway - can someone give me some info that might help me decide which way to go?
What’s the better gun? The Ruger 556 or one of the Sig variants?
