In the 80s, when regular SOF units were getting rid of the .45 for M9s,
the only love lost was going from 45 to 9mm.
Coincidentally, we were told no barrels, frames, slides, etc. for the .45s since 1945.
They were loose, poor reliablity, horrible mags, etc.
Fast forward 20 years, and when say an SF group had permission to get rid of the underpowered M9s, and get old .45s out of storage,
everyone thought the issue was going to be mags, holsters, lights, etc. But more of an issue was that these .45s did not live up to the ledgend of when .45s were new, or .45s with extra special love and care from their unit.
There were just not enough people that believed the older guys when we said if the choice is a Beretta or one of the old issue .45s, you are better off with the Beretta.
That’s my understanding as well, But with my new Vertac, I’ll probably install a “D” spring and possibly a Wolfe trigger spring, and a Wilson short reach trigger. Fooling around with my Vertac dry firing it, the trigger pull stacks quite a bit towards the back of the pull. From what I can find out, The D spring and the Wolfe trigger spring should get rid of a lot of the stacking…
The wolf spring does not improve the trigger pull.
It replaces the trigger spring, which were know to break now and then. A new design has eliminated the weak place in the spring that was prone to break.

My intention was at first, to install the WC short reach trigger, and the Wolfe trigger spring because I thought it would be simpler…However, after doing a bit of reading on the Beretta forum, It seems a few folks have been having some problems with the Wolfe trigger spring… sluggish returns, with both the standard and reduced pull units. Also, I didn’t realize that the Vertec comes with a SR trigger from the factory (at least that’s what I gathered over there)…So, now my plan is to just install the “D” spring as I think this will help a lot. From what I’ve read on the Beretta forums, The D spring seems to lower the DA pull to about 8-9 lbs At least that’s what was posted by some folks who took the time to actually measure the differences. If so, that’d be great…
I shot the Vertec yesterday… Ran about 250 rnds of my reloads through it without any trouble. Fired, fed, extracted, all the rounds perfectly. Accuracy is excellent, I had no problems keeping hits on the target to palm sized at about 10-12yds. Considering I haven’t shot a Beretta for about a decade, I figure this is pretty decent. I did notice the trigger stacking towards the rear of the DA pull. Hopefully, my “D” springs will be here next week, I figure they’ll help a lot. I ordered some 17rnd factory mags from Midway… At $19.99 apiece how can you go wrong? That’s cheaper than Glock mags. Also bought a spring kit from Wolfe these Kits have every spring in the gun, and I believe in having spare springs… So for now, All I’m going to do is install a D spring and shoot it.
The difference between the D spring and the regular spring is astounding. Word of caution, I wore out a D spring after a few years and started getting light strikes. Fixed the issue with a new D spring. I dry fired a ton and put 5-6000 rounds before any trouble occurred. Also, I never did check, but the light strikes could have been partially due to gunk in the FP channel.
Being issued a Beretta from time to time, I asked myself about their validity. So I bought a Brigadier for training purposes, and have since sold my old favorite 9mm(an M&P9FS) to get a second one of my new favorite 9mm: a Beretta Brigadier. I’ll likely end up choosing either an M&P9 w/fitted barrel, a Glock 19, or maybe even trying a VP9 one day to act as an alternative carry gun, but as far as Berettas go, it’s exactly what I hoped it’d be: an excellent, reliable tack driver.
PS-I have medium/large hands, so that might play pretty heavily into my satisfaction with Berettas.
D springs showed up today… Took all of 5 minutes to install, Wow! what a difference! Also got my factory 17 rnd mags from Midway, beautiful blued finish. I was so impressed I ordered 3 more. I should be good in the mag dept for quite awhile. It is so refreshing to be able to buy factory hi-cap mags for a reasonable price. One thing I noticed when comparing the DA pulls of the Vertec, and my HK45c, is the HK’s trigger doesn’t seem to stack like the Beretta does, it’s just a heavy pull throughout the stroke. The D spring cut the stacking down considerably, but, it is still there, and I think now, It’ll much easier to deal with.
One was ordered from Brownells and it is a Beretta D spring, I also ordered 2 from Wilson combat, these are 16lb chrome-silicon springs, and are not supposed to take a set and last longer. I installed the Beretta spring.
