Omega X 12.0 FSP - front folding sight?

I have an Omega X 12.0 FSP en route and though I don’t mind a fixed FSP especially for the price of the rail, I was thinking about the possibility of setting it up with folding front sights.

I was thinking of a front sight that when folded is level with the top of the rail.

The Vltor VST 1C would’ve been perfect but it doesn’t fit.

Quiet-Matt modified his rail to fit a YHM folding front sight tower/gas block assembly…which would be great if it didn’t involve filing on the rail.

ARMS 41 fits without modifications according to Stickman but it sticks up a bit when folded.

Anything out there that would fit without modification AND fold flush to the top rail?

I am curious about this one too.
From the pics it looks like it wouldn’t be possible, as the length of the sight cutout doesn’t look long enough to give adequate height when flipped up. (if that makes sense)

Strangely enough I have been thinking about the same thing. Another option I am looking into is a Railed gas block with a Troy on it. Alternatively you could just shave the gas block and then put a rail cover section over that part of the rail then mount a normal flip up further forward.

Have you looked at either the new PRI picatinny railed gas block, or the new Gen II Vltor VST without the QD swivel?

You can just sell the 12.0 FSP and get the 12.0 Lite rail. Then you have a continuous rail. That’s what I did on my DD M4.

I get what you mean, but it is possible, the YHM sight fit, the filing on the rail was for the width, not length.

I’ve been thinking about a railed block too, I understand some gas block rails are not receiver height though. Interesting idea on the low pro block and rail cover, hadn’t thought of that!

I didn’t know about the new Vltors, they look like they just might fit! They aren’t on the Vltor site yet though, are they available? Kinda pricey! The PRI’s look a tad too long to fit?

I got the FSPs cuz they were quite a bit cheaper than the 12.0 Lite. Now I might be spending more especially if those Vltors fit haha!

Go with the PRI if you are dead set on the folder.

Got any more pics of the YHM FSP? Mainly how much was needed to be removed from the rail.
Also, how is the quality on that FSP?

I asked the guys at Vltor, they weren’t sure themselves, and asked me to let them know when I tried it. I’d like to order one and find out when I have the extra cash.

Any particular reason you recommend PRI? I hear they make great stuff but have no experience with them, just curious.

Haven’t tried these yet so I can’t say. Not much was removed from the rail basing on the pics. Here is the thread I got the pics from:

They do look good! I’m just guessing on them being pricey basing off the price of the current model. Seeing how well made they look, I doubt they’ll be cheap!

PRI locks solid when up and doesn’t stick out as much as the ARMS, not as difficult to put in the up position as the ARMS, and doesn’t need any mods to the rail to make it fit or work.

I bought one that I was going to use with the RISII FSP I had but ended up just re-installing the fixed FSB. I might be parting with the PRI.

any pics of the PRI flip up on a DD FSP rail?

Thanks OP, I was just thinking about the same; DD FSP 12.0 + Vltor front sight/gas block. I don’t mind taking the trusty old dremel to the rail for minor fitting.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how it works out for you. Good luck!

Well, I’ll be getting to my rifle and rails in about 2 weeks. Lots of options for the front sight, thanks to everyone’s thoughts, but I haven’t decided on one yet. So I’ll probably end up with the fixed front sight initially, and since the rail is easily user removable once initially installed I can just put on a folder later on. Will update as the rail is installed and as I narrow down the choices for the front sight.
Right now in the running are:

ARMS 41 - fits with no mods but not as low profile as I’d like. But come to think of it it’s about the height of a standard rail mount BUIS which is not bad at all.

PRI - looks to fit with no mods as the clamps are on the bottom, not the sides like the YHM above, but not 100% sure. Nice and low profile and functionally no problem but is not as seamless looking as I hope I can get it. (this is nit picking though)

VLTOR - this is the look I hope I can get! Completely filling the rail FSP opening, having a top rail to visually blend in, and having a flip up front BUIS integrated too!

YHM - same as PRI but needs slight mods and I don’t really want to do permanent mods if possible.

Railed gas block with conventional rail mount front BUIS - Not sure how feasible this is yet, will know more when I get my rail and rifle in my hands and make some measurements. Maybe someone has already tried and can share?.

Decisions, decisions…

Im gonna give the PRI setup a try on mine in the next few weeks.
I was gonna go with the ARMS, but they have an iffy rep, and it doesnt look like it has a positive lock when in the up position.

Kewl! Please do post pics and a review if possible!

You given this a shot yet?

I am thinking of doing this. I was going to ask anyone if they thought I was crazy. The front post is annoying on my two guns that have the Omega 12. I have a Cold and a DDm4 with this rail. I was thinking of cutting the front sight tower off with a dremil and then filing it down to make it smooth and paint it. Then cover the missing section with a Tango down rail cover. I am just too scared at this point to try cutting the sight with a dremil.
Pat

no.
Ive come to the conclusion Im better off either keeping the FSP rail and the standard front sight, or sell the rail and get a DD lite rail and a MBUS.
If I do the lite rail and MBUS it will look more correct, and I wont have to worry about an “iffy” gas block as Ill just cut the factory one down.

I wish the VLTOR fit the DD rail, if it did I would just do that…

Well, I ordered a .625 PRI Flip up today. I am building an upper using a VLTOR MUR-1, DD Omega X rail, and a DD Pencil profile barrel. Turns out PRI is really the only viable option for a .625 flip up. Spendy for sure, but I got it for MUCH less than retail.

Had it been an option, I would likely have just bought the Omega X 12.0. They just aren’t building them yet. I also got the Omega X 12.0 FSP for just $165 shipped, so…

This upper will go on a Tactical Innovations Billet lower. It will be a very lightweight yet extremely useful gun!
