Olympic Arms 7.62x39 on AR15 lower

Seems at the moment they have them, does anyone have any info on these uppers, are they ready to go with Russian ammo, cause that is one of the reasons for getting one, and the other is to carry 1 rifle to the range rather that 2 and just swap uppers, I would like to here from others and their experience’s with this caliber on the AR15 lower, thanks and all info appreciated.

I’ve done quite a bit of research and building and rebuilding in this caliber. I took an LMT upper and carrier, added a Model 1 Sales Bolt, enhanced firing pin (available by phone only), and ER Shaw barrel to the upper. The 7.62x39 enhanced firing pin is $20 and protrudes thru the bolt face only slightly more than a 5.56 firing pin. This is to accomodate the recessed primers that Russian ammo and other milsurp stuff has. I thought you needed an extra power hammer spring, however putting the upper on an Essential Arms lower with a significantly lighter trigger assembly proved me wrong. You can use this with a lighter trigger. This is good because I’m going to make all my lowers the same now.

The only thing I don’t like about the platform is the 30rd CProd magazines. They look awful but do perform pretty well. I have 25 of them now. I load them to 25rd. I can’t get them to 30, although 28 is a little more like it. I have some 10rd mags coming next week and will give a report on them.

Basically I can’t tell you anything about olympic uppers. what I can tell you is I’ve run about 400rds thru my upper since I built it. 2 months ago. It works. It works on two different lowers. One has a heavy trigger, one a light trigger.

If you want to build one, go to Delton and get their conversion upper. I just ordered a barrel from them (Wilson) in 16" Pre-ban and will be sending it to ADCO for shortening to 10.5" and 1/2x36 tpi for the flash hider I have. I would be doing the same with a M1S barrel at 11.5" except that it costs $220 and the Wilson barrel at Delton is only $165. It might require a little gas port opening but after seeing some people run 7.62x39 in a 7.5" barrel I think it’ll do fine. This is for a pistol build.

Here’s the writeup I did on my LMT/7.62x39/TROY MRF-R/CProd Build.

There’s more info in there that will hopefully show you what you might want in the rifle.

so get the completed upper from Delton and the bolt and firing pin from Model1, and then we should be ready to scoot and shoot?? thanks, LMK on that

I checked on Del-ton’s site for you. They apparently only have barrels, not uppers right now. It appears a call to M1S to get a complete 16" upper might be worth it now. They have uppers with carbine handguards, bolt carrier group and charging handle for $505. $20 for the enhanced firing pin. Add s/h. Might be under $550 delivered. You’ll need magazines. They’re going to be about $20ea for the CProd 10 or 30rders. Good luck with your build!

I called and talked with M1S about 10 days or so ago and they told me that they were either 3-6 wks. out or 3-6 months out, can not remember which for sure but I bet it was 3-6 wks, I will just give them another hello and see where they are at, thanks, if anything comes to be I will let you know.

i almost went with one of these uppers and didnt cause alot of companies said that the cheap ammo will not function well due to the lacquer on the shells will melt and gum up the chamber… sounds like trouble to me…

I will use all Russian ammo and probably stick with the silver bear nickel cases, that is the reason I would bet is the reason why folks will be buying these, not to use the high dollar USA made ammo, why else even bring them to market if you can not use this ammo or be handcuffed to a certain high dollar ammo, just my reasoning.

LMTROCKS, how is the accuracy in the 7.62x39 upper? I was gonna put a 18in SPR type gun together, Maybe give it the A.I. treatment.
