old threads. and zombie posts

i just dont get it ?

why does everyone have a cow . if you bring back an old thread ?

heck ? i enjoy em ,

i mean ? your reading something that interests YOU, and some guy always , has something to say like :

this thread is 5 years old.

this thread is dead

this thread is a zombie…

who cares ? read what ya want !!! after all . it’s the stupids internet !!

lol !!! it’s all good.

peabody

The flip side of it is that if you start a new thread asking a question that has been asked before in an old thread then someone will inform you that the forum has a search function and suggest that you learn how to use it.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You can’t please everyone. Just let it go.

The same reason why people won’t capitalize and use crap like “lol.”

Oh wait, that’s a lack of education.

It depends on what the thread was and why it was brought back. If it’s an old thread with a lot of drama then it’s probably better to let sleeping dogs lie. If, on the other hand, it’s an old product announcement that hasn’t gotten any traffic in a while and you’re looking for updates from actual users then I think reviving the old thread is the best way to handle it.

hit a nerve did it ? lol

Really?!? This is not TOS. Lets try to keep SNR high.

1- I closed that thread because there was a recent and relevant question that deserved to stand on it’s own to be discussed by the membership.

2- Zombie threads tend to lack information due to the thread being from a different time, therefore, it takes about 2 pages to make it current, during which the question that resurrected it gets buried under people clarifying positions they had years ago.

3- The guys with the most experience and knowledge tend to avoid threads with titles like,“I have a question”, “Noob question”, “I was just thinking”, and the like because they don’t let the reader know what they are about to walk into, and frankly they aren’t going to bother wih things they don’t care about. So, if somebody wants an answer or wants to discuss something, it’s better to title the thread appropriately.

4- If you have a problem with somehing I do, PM me, another moderator, or Staff member; there isn’t much need to start a thread about it, which leads to…

5- The AR General Discussion area is for discussions about . . . ARs, if there is a question about the forum in general, there is a Site Questions and Comments sub-forum that is a more appropriate place for them, which is where you will find this thread from now on.

Oh, now I see where this thread came up. Wish I hadn’t posted in it. But since I already did…

Not to mention, many times in a 4+ year old thread nobody is still around that was part of the discussion at that time.

Generally, the “use the search button” response comes when a topic has been repeatedly covered or is a simple answer easily found with a few deft clicks of the mouse.

I’m not sure if anyone else posts over at Corner-Carvers but you will get the ban hammer for asking a question that has been asked already. I’ve seen posts brought back that are over 8 years old.
Its all depends on the site and moderators.
