Thiis might be an odd question. Im looking at a Mauser C96 (broomhandle) that comes with the wooden holster that converts to a shoulder stock. Is that considered a NFA firearm or…?

I could be mistaken but would that be considered an “AOW” therefor a NFA firearm? Or possibly it’s all fine and legal until you actually put the stock on the firearm
My understanding is that the original stocks were grandfathered in but it has to be original. A repro stock is NFA

A simple Google search would show that certain weapons like the original C96 Broomhandles and the Luger with stocks are considered C&R’s and are exempt.
C96,'s Lugers and High Powers, to name the few that I know of, were grandfathered in.
Not grandfathered, they are C&R… Curios & Relics.
I did and found info on the original/reproduction stocks. Nothing that just said flat out “exempt” thats why i wanted to double check.

Let me clarify.
If they are original pistols (not reproductions) they are exempt from the NFA.
Being C&R does not exempt you from the NFA, however there are certain C&R firearms that are exempt such as:
- Pistols with shoulder stocks
- Lever action rifles with less than 16" barrels
Any reproduction of these guns is not exempt from the NFA.
If it’s listed in section III of the ATF’s C&R list, then it’s still a firearm under the GCA but not regulated as a title II firearm.

It’s only specific types of pistols with original stocks. If either the gun or the stock is a reproduction it doesn’t qualify.
