“Simplistic”, I’ll put itat way! A while back I bought a pair of ASOLO boots; I couldn’t decide between goretex and non-goretex. Now I don’t remember which way I went! What ise easiest way to tell? Besides go stand in a bucket of water…
Please be gentle.
Options:
-
Label inside still? Read the model number and google it.
-
Post a picture and let us gear freaks prognosticate.
-
Look for “Gore-Tex” markings.
-
Look at your receipt or order confirmation.
-
Ask your mother…
-
Fill your boot up with water and see how fast it leaks out.
-
Ask the boots in a firm voice “Are you Gore-Tex lined?”
-
Look inside, under the edges for signs of a white tyvek looking material.
-
Find another pair in a store or online that looks like yours and compare the price. GTX will be more expensive.
-
If there is mesh on the boot, try to blow canned air through it. If you can’t they are lined.
I know that only a couple of theses are really any help but you said to go easy on you.
Personally I suggest #2 as your best option…

If Goretex it usually says both in an outside of the boots as it is a big marketing thing.
Here you go. Besides the interior size label, there are no other markings showing.

Wes, Those are Asolo FSN 85 light hikers. Non Gore-Tex. In my opinion that is a positive feature. If they fit you those are good boots.
I have big, hot, sweaty feet. Gore-tex lined boots are only really good for me in a narrow comfort range. Below freezing the GTX doesn’t help much but in the north-east’s “slush season” I will wear Gore-Tex boots. Most of the time I wear Vasque “Breeze” Non Gore-Tex boots and wool socks.
Hope That Helps!

Thanks, Muddyboots! I rember now: I already had a pair of USMC Danner Temperate boots with gore tex, so I thought I should get a non-gore boot for hiking in hotter weather. The other ASOLO model w/gore is the FSN 95, right? How could you tell the ones I have, is there an external difference? The Danners have a label inside that specifies they are gores.
Yes, the FSN-95’s are the ones with Gore-Tex. All Asolo boots have the model number/name on a little tag on the tongue label. If the boot has Gore-Tex, there will be another tag stating such on the other side of the tongue label.
Jeremy
J-Dubya nailed it.
There is a small embossed “Gore-Tex” plaque/rivit/badge thing on some runs too.
The Gore-tex and the markings aren’t the only differences between the 85 and 95. Some construction is different too. The 95 is a slightly heavier boot.
Glad to help.

Yes they are! They fit well and I used them on a pretty tough hike: the John Muir Trail up to Half Dome, climbed the rock, then down the Mist Trail, almost an 18 hour continuous trek. They felt great.
