Road rage apparently led to a confrontation involving two men in a pickup and a motorcyclist, police said.
Christopher Conrad, 33, was shot and killed at about 8:30 p.m. Friday during a fight outside a Brookside bar.
Police say Conrad and his passenger, Chester Shadwick, began yelling derogatory statements about Harley Davidson motorcycles and “wannabe bikers” at the motorcyclist, Daniel Kitchens, 48, as both vehicles were heading west on 41st Street.
The men in the pickup followed Kitchens to the Slo Ride Bar, 4133 S. Peoria Ave., police said.
Conrad and Shadwick exited their truck and assaulted Kitchens, who in turn shot Conrad in the upper torso with a .38-caliber revolver, according to police.
Conrad was pronounced dead at the scene. Kitchens suffered a laceration to his mouth, police said.
Police subsequently interviewed Kitchens and released him. Kitchens had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, police said.
Shadwick was found to be extremely intoxicated and was booked into the Tulsa Jail on a complaint of public intoxication.
There seems to be a lot of people successfully defending themselves lately with a firearm which is fantastic. Actually, it probably happens more than we realize, just fails to make the front page and MSM.
By the way, Irish, do you get some kind of alert or something sent to your cell phone when these sort of things happen? You’re always the first to know.
I check out a few different websites every day. I post the incidents I find interesting or educational on M4C for a few different reasons… I think intelligent discussion about different situations, incidents and what possibly might have helped the defender can help everyone. I also think that the more you publicize and educate people about the postive uses of firearms that there’ll be more ammunition for the 2nd Amendment folks like us.
Typically the news reflects the negative side of firearms usage by criminals and their ilk so if I can find postive uses and get more people thinking about that aspect I feel like I’ve done a little bit to help.
I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that we get a sub-forum for shooting incidents so that we can group them all together rather than just posting to the General Discussion part of the forum. I think it would make for an interesting and informative subject matter as long as people treat it as such.
Irish is the “BamaShooter” of M4Carbine.net. Maybe a lot won’t get that, but it is what it is.
I wonder if the biker would have simply a weapons charge, or a murder charge, had he not had his CCW
I once heard a story about an inner city guy who was the victim of an attempted car-jacking of his ghetto rider, 20", whatever was on it. The cops assumed he was a thug and filed manslaughter charges against him. When it was revealed he had his CCW, all charges were dropped.
I’ll never understand how rightfully defending yourself could result in a murder charge, regardless of a license. Weapons charges, understandable, but murder?
Here in Tulsa we’re watching this one very closely. We had a pretty decent case of SD against a road raging meth head here a couple of years back. But the disabled elderly CCW’er who shot him made some inflammatory comments to the press and our douchebag DA successfully prosecuted him.
One or both of them were probably on parole. I have seen that exact same SS tattoo on several arian-skinhead convicts I work around (I’m a guard/CO at a max joint).
In most circles it’s a compliment. Every good forum has one. Glock Talk has HerrGlock and bama is on a lot of forums (i think he has the beach boys for a theme song :D).
One of the good things is that these people post both pro and con stories and we get to see more than just our local area. Some people bash HerrGlock they think he writes the ed opts and stuff but you wont have to worry much about that here. We are civil even when we disagree… mostly.
Asshats like that usually run in groups and think they are very tough until they are alone. One on one they are usually pussies; however, that being said as a group, they are very very dangerous. Glad the CCW’r made it out ok.
