ok... gas system converted.

Okay, I looked and found the thread in question on the other board and the guy sent his system to Metaloy Industries for hard chroming. That was a month ago so I IM’d him to see if he got it back yet and how much they charged. When he gets back to me I’ll keep you guys up to date.

Sounds good. Your prior post spoke of L&W’s teflon coating. Now I guess they’re putting a new teflon mixture on those parts for even more added protection. I would be up for that, if L&W would perform that work on a system other than their’s. I dont know, might be worth looking into.

I’d rather go with the hard chroming job. The Teflon coating L-W uses scratches fairly easy and others have said it will flake off of high use areas. The chrome would be MUCH more durable in my opinion.

Ive done a few things to my rifle and with the kit over the past couple months I think ive fixed all the issues. I was told by someone I highly respect that I should write up a patent for one or two things I did. I dont know if Im interested in that though. I would at least like to contact ares and tell them what might help or eliminate the issues. But people would have to send their rifles to them for it to be done. HAHAHA OR ME!

Anyway, I dont get much time to work on it or shoot it. So I spend alooooot of time thinking about it while Im working or hanging out with my kids and my wife or whatever. Almost every night it keeps me awake, so I have to come up with something or I wont be able to go to sleep, so ive come up with alot of ideas. I still have yet to shoot the hell out of it and see how it works, Im pretty sure ive got it on the run now though. Im sure that 90% of people just want to send their kits back for a refund, but Im going to make this work even if it kills me. I cant stand not being productive, not only that but I have a hard time just putting something down and walking away if it dosnt work correctly. I guess I take it as a personal challenge, Or maybe im just obsessive compulsive who knows, one things for sure whatever it is I wont let it win.

Originally, all the LWRC piston components including the bolt carrier were parkerized and then teflon coated. The teflon coating didn’t adhere very well to the high use areas and occasionally caused some tolerance issues. They’ve recently switched to a Electroless Nickel finish. Much like hard chrome, it is bonded to the base metal, extremely durable, and highly lubricious.
