after 600 rounds on my 10.5 416 my m4-2k was starting to erode, and thats with inconel baffles and a blackout 51t

Thanks for the info people, and keep it coming. I am more interested in the technicals than the suppressors right now. I will look deeper into that issue when the rifle is built.

I’d forget about the Gemtec and go with an AAC, Surefire, or KAC silencer.

Gemtec is a distant 5 place when it comes to 5.56 rifle cans.

Two questions:

1. What is it about Gemtech that keeps them from being at the same level as the other three you mentioned? Design, Contruction, Quality, Customer Service, Durability? I don’t have a Gemtech on my shopping list (that space is reserved for one of the other 3 you mentioned), but I am curious to hear about their shortcomings.

2. Who’s in 4th place?

I am trying to avoid the switch block because I prefer longer rails. I am hoping that I can get it to run well suppressed and un-suppressed.

1.) From my little experience with suppressors, Gemtechs are HEAVY! That’s all I know.

Here we go! I am in the process of building a 10.3" SBR. So far I have a DD CHF 10.3" barrel, a UBR stock, BCM BCG, and an SSA. This weapon will be suppressed as soon as I decide upon a Surefire or AAC can. My Class 3 dealer buddy is trying very hard to get me to buy a Gemtech but I think it’s too heavy.

I want this to run both suppressed and unsuppressed and reliability is key. Tell me your experiences and ideas.

Not sure if youre willing to sell or set aside your UBR but the A5 kit would really help IMHO.

I will look into anything, I am in the process of a 7.62X51 build that will require a UBR. I’m never locked into anything…

Gemtech = lesser grade materials, non-engineered designs, deceptive advertising, outdated designs.

The top four brands are AAC, KAC, Surefire, and Ops Inc.

Ops Inc is 4th.

The differences between AAC, KAC, and Surefire are minimal, Op Inc is a little further behind and Gemtech is way far back.

Gemtech is the Bushmaster/DPMS of the silencer market.

I wouldn’t go that way, a 7.62 AR is much better off with a longer receiver extension than a shortened buffer with less weights.

There are not a lot of tricks out there, an H2 or H3 will run well with the A5 being a bit smoother from what I’ve shot. The Switchblock will decrease recoil with a silencer attached in a way no buffer system can but you can get a shorty running reliably without it if you don’t want to add one.
