I’ve been using the Griffin Armament and Magpul offset sights for a while and both seem to have their niches
I prefer to use the Magpul offsets on the rifle that I use for DMR competition because they remain folded when not needed and maintain a low profile. The fact that they don’t lock in the up position doesn’t bother me much and so far I haven’t had any issues with them closing inadvertently. I’ve read some complaints about the sight picture but again this is another aspect of the design that doesn’t bother me much. With the small aperture the FOV is restricted but it was still pretty effective at hitting steel plates at 200 and 300 yards. With the larger aperture the FOV opens up dramatically and I was able to quickly transition on close range targets. The Magpul sights offer exactly what I’m looking for to use on my DMR, a quality set of folding BUIS that are effective at engaging both near and far targets.
I also think it is cool that Magpul offers a replacement front sight post that is thinner and won’t cover as much of the target at distance.
The Griffin Armament sights currently reside on the rifle that I use for 2-gun and IMO are perfectly suited for that type of shooting. The pic below shows them on my DMR competition rifle but they got moved over after I bought the Magpul offset sights. The GA sights are a little different compared to the others because the elevation and windage adjustments are made at the rear sight. The rear aperture is also somewhat non-standard in that the diameter is somewhere between the small and large A2 aperture. Combined with the enclosed fixed front sight post this gives it a sight picture quite similar to an MP-5. I found the FOV with the sights pretty generous and I was able to easily transition on close range targets but for some reason they weren’t as good on the steel plates at 200 and 300 yards.
The GA sights are fixed so they are always deployed which is great in some respects but it makes it a pain sometimes for storage. Some will say that the fixed sights also create a snag hazard but again I have not personally experienced this. IMO the fixed front sight presents no more a snag hazard then a side mounted weaponlight.
I have friends and known fellow competitors that have used the cheaper knock-off versions of offset iron sights and to me any cost savings just isn’t worth it.
