This is stupid. Hornady has jumped the shark. I don’t care if people want to play act zombie fantasies, but for a major ammo company to market a product specifically for zombies makes them look stupid, and provides fodder for the Brady bunch to argue that gun owners as a group are immature rednecks who can’t tell reality from B-movies.
The fact that this appears to be standard defensive type ammo but has a stupid disclaimer that it’s not to be used on anything human, plant or animal is extra stupid. Let’s quote from their own ad:
Put the dead to rest for good - visit a major sporting goods retailer near you to outfit yourself with Zombie Max ammunition.
But please note, Hornady Zombie Max ammunition is not a toy. It is intended only to be used on zombies, also known as the living dead, undead, etc. No human being, plant, animal, vegetable or mineral should ever be shot with Zombie Max ammunition.
Again, we repeat, Zombie Max ammunition is for use on zombies only - that’s not a nickname, phrase or cute way of referring to anybody, place or thing. When we say zombies, we mean zombies.
If your LE agency uses Hornady LE ammo and you have a shooting that winds up in court, do you think some defense lawyer or plaintiff’s lawyer might try and bring up Hornady’s zombie line to argue that something was done wrongly? Sure, it would be stupid, but dumber things happen on a regular basis. If I was buying LE ammo I would be inclined to buy from a company that did NOT have a zombie product line.
I think whoever is responsible for this should be fired. I thought the best of Hornady until I saw the stories on this product this morning at Vuurwapen Blog and Firearm Blog. You can lose a good reputation really fast.
Lighten up, man.
I wouldn’t buy the stuff, but I don’t see it as creating any legal exposure. As for some lawyer painting Hornady as culpable or irresponsible, zombies don’t sue.

THIS! It’s just a marketing ploy to sell more ammo, and they released it during the Halloween season. Everything has to be PC these days, it’s good to see a company have some fun with their products!
+100. I think it’s great to see a little humor in the industry! Especially coming from a big manufacturer like Hornady. I think most people will take it for what it is: A funny and clever marketing ploy that caters to the growing zombie craze :lol:

Bought some .223, 12g, and 9mm… Thinking it might become collectable? In the meantime looks good on the shelf as a conversation starter. Thought it would make a great Xmas gift for a couple of my shooting buddies.

I think they are going to make too much of it for it to become collectible. I think it will be cool to have some though and ordered 9mm, .223 and 12g also.

I think it is stupid :), but it is working we are talking and reading about Hornady and I’m sure thousands more are too. Even if all it does is make us think, hey I need more TAP. I assume they thought about it and weighed the pros and cons. It did make me smile first time I saw it. Good for them.

think about this: you hear about it, you decide what should i get ____ for Christmas? how about something usable (ammo) that is still funny/interesting enough to be a decent present (zombie box) that is UNDER $20? i would love to get away for under $20 for most of my friends a neat present that will be appreciated.
heck, i think most folks will buy a box, just to take home & show wife & friends.
i would LOVE to see the metrics & trends on the sales of this, esp if Wal-mart stocks it for impulse buys.
