Then it wasn’t a Gen4.

Hmmm. Will have to ask the owner about it and determine exactly what it was, then.

Sounds like the first run of RTFs.

I actually liked the gills…

The Gen4 has standard slide serrations.

Me too, they may be ugly, but they did work better.

Follow up . . . .

I asked the owner to confirm whether it’s a Gen 4 or Gen 3.

He says it’s a Gen 4, but I think he meant it’s a RTF, not a Gen 4.

I haven’t kept up with all the changes over the past year or so. Guess I need to attend the Glock armorer school again.

My brother, also a Glock guy swore up and down that the RTF was the Gen4 before the Gen4 was released. There are still a few folks out there that think that the fish gill RTF is a Gen4. He’d ask me if I saw the new G4 Glocks. I’d tell him they haven’t been released yet, and he’d tell me “YES THEY HAVE! They have crescent slide serrations and sharp grips.”

It becomes painfully obvious to any regular guy store shopper that the majority of people behind the counter are almost completely useless. Not to say that they all are, but the disappointing majority are.

If it has fish gill serrations then it is not a Gen 4. Simple as that. The odd thing is you say it has fish gill serrations plus an adjustable backstrap. That is not a possible Glock configuration. The slide with those serrations won’t even fit on a Gen 4 receiver.

a lot of people were under the mistaken impression that the RTF2’s were gen 4.

this is my GEN3 RTF2:

the GEN4 Glocks have the RTF3 texture.

Hush! LAV made fun of them. Agreed. They did provide superior purchase.

Wow, that’s the cheapest I’ve seen that ammo. Every Wal-mart I’ve checked has it for $9.47 a box.

Umm…yeah I night be wrong on the 8.

Not attempting to derail the thread, but most I’ve talked to have found exactly the opposite about the gill cuts. Had they been reversed in direction they might have added to the purchase on the slide, but as they are configured the general consensus is that they sucked. I personally didn’t like them on the guns I tried. I also had the opportunity to watch Ken Hackathorn struggle to use the darn things effectively on a RTF Glock he was using in a class. I believe he actually cursed them out loud.

That’s definitely the general consensus. Your reverse design would be interesting to try. Might be the best approach. I think either angle which increased the surface area in which the sharp edges contacted the thumb and forefinger would improve traction. Much like tire treads. Or so comparing them seemed to me.
