I’m building a new upper for my duty rifle and am leaning towards an Aimpoint T1 to replace the Comp M2 I’ve used for years. The main reason for the T-1 versus a M-3/4 is the ability to easily add the magnifier if I need it. (The gun has to fit in a rack and I can only mount optics to the edge of the upper receiver. A full size Aimpoint won’t fit with a magnifier)
What is tricky is that I want the “default” optic to be the plain T-1. I’d like to be able to add the magnifier if time permits but I don’t want magnification when the rifle comes out of the rack.
For this reason, I’m leaning towards something other than a tip off mount. I don’t have hands on time with the factory mount and didn’t know if it was a good solution. Specifically, I’m looking for a mount that will quick detach and work with an absolute co-witness mount. If it matters, I do shoot nose to carry handle.
Can anyone with experience speak to these concerns - both the factory mount and having the unmagnified T-1 as your default sight?
