Obama on the news last night about assault rifle ban

Obama said on the news last night that he has NO INTENTION on bringing back the assault weapons ban because it would be to unpolitical to the US gun owners.

No matter what his skin color is he’s still a politician. Needless to say only time will tell, and I’m sure the ammo hording and such won’t stop. Either way I don’t have any guns or gun related material.

He’s waiting for the right time, either the polls are so bad it doesn’t matter or he’s doing good and it doesn’t matter

What if you don’t mind me asking does his skin color have to do with this? Not picking a fight, I just don’t get the meaning of your statement.
As for the politics, yea I saw this coming. Why would the Dem’s throw away what they have right now? Especially prior to a midterm congressional election. Even though we like to think politicians don’t learn from past mistakes (and in many cases they prove this), they do wise up eventually. I don’t think political suicide is on Obama’s list of top things to accomplish in his first two years in office.

I think Caeser is on to something. Barry started out with a 70 something favorable vote in the polls and last I heard he was down in the 50’s. I’m not sure of which polls these were and I know you can’ t trust the polls to begin with, but it tells you something; People are starting to see through his tranperancy.

Also, there are over 90 million gun owners in this country and I don’t know of any politician who would throw away 90 million votes. Then again , it’s Barry.

As mentioned above, these people are politicians so you have to watch out for the Washington two-step. They might also be backing down on the AWB due to the upcoming election. 2010 is a huge election year! At the Denver Tea Party a speaker was talking about getting active in the election process, even if it’s a PTA thing, just get involved and talk to people. Take friends hunting and shooting so that they can see how much fun it is and that it is a person’s right to own guns.

The only sure way that we will be able to keep our weapons and the American Way of Life in this country is to vote, and vote the Socialists out. I won’t say Liberals, because I know that alot of people that voted for him are jumping off the Barry Barge. I hope I didn’t go off topic with the “vote 'em out” rhetoric.

Dave

do you have a link or could you tell me what station aired this ? I can’t seem to find it thank you.

I think you can take his statement at face value, but he went out of his way to say it for a reason.

My guess is that he wants to defuse and put into a complacent lull the pro-gun elements, from Congress all the way down to the grassroots, so we’ll just forget about it for a while and stop bristling at him and donating to the NRA and other groups every time he mentions guns in any way. He is a very smart politician and he knows that every time he or anyone in government makes a statement about a new AWB, thousands of people like us donate money and time to try to stop it.

He just wants that issue to lay low for a while. It will come up again.

I second that request please.

It was on my local cleveland news channel 5 and 8.

I’ll look for a link myself. I do believe he does not have the support of many western states and southern dem’s to get it through. Anything major would be surprising this early in his term.

I don’t believe he exactly said he had no intention of bringing back the AWB because of gun rights. He said the AWB would be hard to get passed. That being said, I also think it would be hard to get passed and don’t personally feel it necessary to get my blood pressure up over an assumption.

His popularity has been slowly falling each week. Of course he would “say” that. I don’t trust him… time will tell. :frowning:

A lot of people voted for him cause he was different. The fact that he’s black and his campaign was about “change”. I’m pretty sure everyone has high hopes for him and they want to depend on him cause of our situation now and hope that he can save us. I honestly don’t think the American people would of responded the same for Obama had he been asian or latino. But that’s just my opinion take it for what it’s worth.

Contrast that with his comments during his speech in Mexico City yesterday…

Has anyone checked into the terms of the"Inter Amaerican Arms Treaty",I dont know whats in the treaty signed by Clinton and killed in the senate in 97 or98 as Im trying to find info on it now. If Obama gets the treaty ratified I think it accoplishes some of the same goals as the "assault weapons ban". If he gets us tied to that treaty does anyone know what that will do to our second amendment rights. Skin color is not the issue here ladies and gentlemen party beliefs and integrity are, Obama has said he does not want a new ban, he knows he cant win. What worries me are his surrogates (the attorney general, and diane fienstien) advocating for a new ban or saying she will choose the time. Muzzle them then Ill be impressed, until then he is a Chicago anti-gun democrat and Ill never trust him.

I too would like to read it. When guys post an article, I always like to see the link as well.

For the record, I don’t beleive him.

He’s done the opposite of 90% of the things he promised during his campaign. I’m not about to trust him now.

Last paragraph, not a direct quote though.

I agree skin color has nothing to do with it. The American people need to look past the whole “Messiah” image and realize he is still a politician.
