So Sarah Palin equates to stinky fish and lipstick on a pig? Obama is a classy guy. I bet plenty of women are going to love that. They love being told they stink like fish and are a pig.
Obama Says McCain Is Offering Fake Change: ‘You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig, But It’s Still a Pig’
September 09, 2008 6:10 PM
LEBANON, Va. – “That’s not change,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., said of what Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is offering.
“You know, you can put lipstick on a pig,” Obama said, “but it’s still a pig.”
The crowd rose and applauded, some of them no doubt thinking he may have been alluding to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s ad lib during her vice presidential nomination acceptance speech last week, “What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.”
“You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called ‘change,’” Obama continued, "it’s still gonna stink after eight years.
“We’ve had enough of the same old thing! It’s time to bring about real change to Washington. And that’s the choice you’ve got in this election.”
Not a very “Presidential” statement. Looks like he’s going back on his campaign promise of sticking to the issues and not stooping to underhanded BS of the past elections. But he had to do something to blunt the continuing up swell of popularity of Sarah Palin some how. IMHO, this statement will come back to bite him in the ass.
Orielly nailed that one in his statement about the Palin bashing Monday night. He said, every time one of the lefties bash Palin, McCain gets another vote!
Seems that Obama is spending more time talking about Palin than he is talking about himself or his “plans”. He is not coming off as very smooth anymore. I think being behind in the polls is way out of his comfort zone and quite a shock to him. That “pit bull” is biting him in the ass!
McCain was talking about the healthcare proposal. The others weren’t personal attacks.
Obama was talking about the Republican ticket/candidates, which was clearly a shot at Palin’s lipstick joke.
All that being said, politics isn’t softball. I don’t think any less of Obama for saying it (though its not very Presidential), anymore than I think less of McCain for using the statement against him.
During the “Pig” speech, Obama had already referenced Palin, bulldogs, lipstick and belittled her as a “mooseshooter.”
Then he dropped the pig comment, and it was clear from the audience reaction that THEY immediately associated it with Sarah Palin…which resulted in the standing ovation.
Obama always PANDERS to the room, changing his diction to a more “urban” mode from the stuttering Ivy Leaguer act he uses in interviews with guys like O’Reilly.
And, just like the “clinging to religion and guns” remark, he was bad-mouthing Sarah Palin on purpose and MEANT IT!
Other Obama/Democrat smear tactics related stuff:
I frequently have contact with major media and they are all leftist. One well-respected TV reporter likes to bust my chops because he knows I am a GOP ultra-conservative.
Yesterday he referred to Sarah Palin as “dumb.”
I’ll be 49 years old next week and have been cognizant of this as a Democrat talking point since I was in high school and Democrats began mocking Gerald Ford as being dumb and clumsy (including the constant barrage of Saturday Night Live bits by Chevy Chase _ a well known leftist loony).
It continued while I was in the Air Force after Reagan was elected. Not only was he a dumb cowboy, he was senile according to the left! Then came Dan Quayle and the constant barrage of stupid comments. They picked at Bob Dole for his crippled arm, and implied his running mate was stupid.
Then they started on George W. Bush, despite it finally being revealed he had a superior college GPA to both John Kerry and Weird Al Gore!
Suffice to say this is the first time in my life I’m giving money to a presidential candidate _ and it ain’t Comrade B. Hussein NObama.
it’s possible that undecided women would be offended by the “lipstick” and “pig” associations.
i think it would be fair to say that women are a fairly sensitive lot, tend to tune into certain things (and tune out others), and one really has to be careful with the choice of words to avoid offending them.
While I personally think that this was not in any way meant to be a reference to Sarah Palin’s Hockey Mom vs. Pitbull comment; it just goes to show how ignorant BHO really is and how he likes to perform for whatever crowd is present.
While I was never considering him as a viable candidate long before this, the more I learn about him, the more I am at peace with voting for McCain.
Oh he knew exactly what he was saying, I’m sure he regretted it now that he’s been criticized for making that statement. It just shows his true character or lack thereof.
I think you’re giving this idiot way too much credit. I don’t think he’s capable of coming up with that kind of a euphemism unless someone wrote it into his speech ahead of time. He’s just not that smart.
