Finally, Obama went into the racial complexities of the Martin situation: “If a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different.” He did say, “As difficult and as challenging as this whole episode has been, I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better…We’re becoming a more perfect union, not a perfect union, but a more perfect union.”
Outrageous comments from Obama, purely, simply, unacceptable, and outrageous…
both the outcome and the aftermath MIGHT have been different."
Or it Might have been the same. Nobody will ever know, as it is just a guess, at best, IMHO.
He could have… but when his girlfriend testified that he stood his ground due to homophobic profiling, I’m guessing his defense is going to fall apart pretty fast. Kinda hard to justify SYG because you have an irrational “fear of creepy ass cracka”.
That was a humorous and thoughtful response Magic but the main point is that Obama very falsely compared his yuppie-assed self to a violent attacking gangster. That is one of many places where he fucked up.
My response was in jest, but I actually think Obama’s comment was strangely appropriate.
Behind every joke, there’s some truth, right? Well. Obama is a criminal, to the point where his very public statements about the case may have gotten him some bad press for swaying public opinion. Public statements may not be a crime, but trying to get a dude put in prison to further your agenda is totally a crime, as it subverts the justice system. In the name of passing/repealing (restrictive) laws. This would be known as “treason”.
Even after the case is concluded, he’s still making remarks about it? Saying that it was a case of gun violence?
Pff. He’s not even trying to hide it. He’s a criminal who preys on others, just like Treyvon did that night.
I’m still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor after listening to the President…If Trayvone was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground? Well, yes Mr. President…If Zimmerman had attacked him, broke his nose and was on top of him banging his head into the concrete…yeah he could have. Disgusting.
I think most of what he said was surprisingly accurate…right up until the end. History isn’t on trial. Zimmerman was. Somehow he was suggesting that it was OK to convict Zimmerman, because most of the time people do shitty things to black kids.
He actually used the phrase, “…if Trayvon had been a white boy, the outcome would have been different” and then as if it wasn’t plain enough, the news network plastered it up on the bottom of the screen where they sum up what’s being said.
So now it’s official, we have the addition of not only the gunrunner, but also the skeetshooter himself into the racial pot stirring movement so completely performed up to this point by one Al Sharpton.
Edit: I swore he had said the above when I watched it live although watching again today he says, “white male teen”. My mistake; guess I was so disgusted by that point that my mind wandered…
What is continuing to chap my ass about this whole episode is the assumption (really a framing of the debate) that just because he may have been being followed that it suddenly gave Traytray the right to assault Zimmerman. Sorry, but nowhere that I know of is it legal to use physical violence against someone for being followed. It conveniently plays into their arguments about how Traytray could’ve “stood his ground” too.
Disgusting. I absolutely REFUSE to let the debate be framed and will refute it when/if the discussion comes up.
I wonder how black do you have to be before people start locking their car doors when you stroll past? I have never had this happen to me EVER. Am I not dark enough? Not black enough? I must be oblivious to all this racism right below the surface because I have never witnessed, been at the receiving end of, or had a personal friend at the receiving end that has told me in personally.
Fuck me, I should just quit now because I need the help of some person above me like religious leaders, community organizers, or members of the government to let me know there is a chance for little old me. I am surprised at how fast this sitting president has polarized the nation. I went from race and racial tension being a thing of the past to in my face in a little less than two months.
Well I was going to start a “What I learned from the President of the United States this week” thread after I watched this “speech” in its in its entirety but truth be told I just didn’t have the energy. I’m glad Denali started one though.
"After researching the FBI numbers for “Suicide of a Superpower,” this writer concluded: “An analysis of ‘single offender victimization figures’ from the FBI for 2007 finds blacks committed 433,934 crimes against whites, eight times the 55,685 whites committed against blacks. Interracial rape is almost exclusively black on white — with 14,000 assaults on white women by African Americans in 2007. Not one case of a white sexual assault on a black female was found in the FBI study.”
From Obama’s “speech” this afternoon:
“And there are very few African-American men who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator.” “There are very few African-Americans who haven’t had the experience of getting on an elevator and a woman clutching her purse nervously and holding her breath until she had a chance to get off. That happens often.” - Obama
Well no shit Mr. President . . . but I guess its just racist when white women are sick and tired of being raped and God forbid they lock their doors and hold their purses a little tighter when a black man walks by them.
“And, you know, I – I don’t want to exaggerate this, but those sets of experiences inform how the African-American community interprets what happened one night in Florida.” - Obama
Mr. President the above collected data from the FBI “inform how the European-Ameican community interprets” what happens everday in cities across this nation.
