I’m interested in picking up a pair of these for LE duty tasks. I was curious as to what kind of experience you folks might have had with these gloves. Are they durable and do they fit large or small? Thanks.

I use them at work. I have large hands and short fingers. I went with the medium for a bit more dexterity. I used them for shooting and took a class where simunitions were used and they are the best gloves I have ever had to shoot with. Thanks Cory Cop. I’m actually already signed up on the site. When you bought a medium is that the size you would normally choose in gloves? I just want to know if they fit bigger or smaller compared to other gloves. Thanks.
I went thru a pair a couple of years ago for AF SP training in Texas and they sucked. Parts of the glove are made from Neoprene and that is a poor choice for a combat type glove. I had soem of the stitching fall apart in that area. The hard knuckles were nice… My next set of gloves will have hard knuckes and be made of only flame retardent material or leather.
My partner ordered them for him and they were too big. I would have ordered a large but the mediums seemed to fit. I would say they run bigger.

I have some of the Oakley gloves and while I like them, I would not get them again. I’m going thru a .mil school right now and we had to wear gloves for the M249 and M240 quals. It was at that time (changing barrels) that I realized that the Oakley gloves while well made, were not made of materials that in my opinion are suitable for a combat glove. They use neoprene and another synthetic fabric that could melt or burn. My next pair will be made of leather, Nomex, Kevlar, or a combination of the three. Just something to keep in mind…

Oakley just released a improved version of the glove on in black right now. They have a improved palm and better stitching, soo maybe they wont fray between the thumb and 1st finger knuckle like they and wileyz gloves always do.
Camelbak makes a carbon knucle gloove that look better then the oakleys in the palm.When this pair of Si’s is toast, im trying them next.
anyone have any experience with the si FR gloves?
are oakley gloves forgiving? do they stretch or just feel tight?
I use the Mechanix Fast Fit gloves at work (LEO). They go on fast, fit well, are very durable, and are only $15-20 a pair so its not too painful when they get nasty and I have throw them away. I’d recommend them to anyone. I’ve had my current pair for more than a year now and they’re still going strong.
I’ve been thinking about getting the Oakley SI Assault Gloves too
I am torn between those and Mechanix gloves, which aren’t as designer, but everyone says they are tough and will hold up to military abuse
I was in the same boat until I read all the reviews about the oakley gloves which said that they had poor stitching and would come apart on you. I’m very pleased with my mechanix gloves and when I finally have to trash them all it takes is another trip to Wal-Mart.
I already have a pair of the Mechanix gloves that I purchased at Lowe’s. They are the basic “utility” models but they have performed well. I can’t really say how heat resistant they are but I can stand to handle my AK, after hundreds of rounds, while wearing them. I keep the Mechanix around as an all purpose glove. I intend to buy another pair for each of my POVs. I just wanted to try out the Oakleys as I’ve heard good things about them and I appreciate the protection the hard knuckles provide. I’m curious as to their durability as I’ve heard the concerns about the stiching, etc. I placed an order and at the SI price I’m willing to take a chance. I will note that my current patrol glove, made by 5.11 ( can’t recall the model) sucks. They are poorly made and their durability last about 3 or 4 months. I’ll post up when they arrive and attempt to complete a review of them.
This is EXACTLY why I bought the Oakleys.
I wear Operator Shorty gloves by Hatch at work. They take a lot of abuse from sand, rocks, and all sorts of vegetation that have things that are sharp and stick. They are made from a mix of kevlar and goatskin leather. No hard knuckles, but they do have a padding over them. There is a similar model that does have hard knuckles but I don’t know what it is called. Size seems to fit about right, small is small, large is large. They provide a good bit of dexterity, good enough to write something down, or manipulate controls on firearms or other mechanical devices.
I haven’t yet held anything of abnormal heat or cold yet with them, but they do claim to be heat and flash resistant up to a certain degree, as well as being flame retardent to a certain degree.
