NY gets a little safer

First sting by NY State police. I am glad justice was served.

…the investigator set another tripwire by telling Wassell that he was a convicted felon. Instead of terminating the sale, Wassell remarked, “The whole felony, banned-for-life thing, it’s stupid.”

No pity here at all.

Pretty much agree but…the whole idea that they are already setting up stings irks the hell out of me.

I am willing to bet this originated from a Craigslist ad, or something equally inane on the part of the seller.

Whether we agree or disagree with the gun laws of New York state this guy was just a complete idiot knowingly selling currently banned items and then selling to a under cover officer who claimed to be a convicted felon.

This was not you typical guy selling a personal owned gun but a fool trying to cash in by selling restricted items in a AWB state and then in case you missed it “To a Claimed Convicted Felon”.

This idiot and his arrest is going to be a PR blessing for the NY Governor.

While it sounds like he made foolish mistakes, no one should ever be looking at prison time for a lug or collapsible stock only. Selling to an admitted felon however poses obvious risks and is extremely ill-advised, especially with a stranger.

Despite the ridiculous cosmetic accessory bans he still essentially screwed himself.

Which is where some criminals and others get their guns. While I don’t agree with the New York ban this tactic is what I have been describing as a way to enforce a background check law without registration of firearms.

someone beat ya to it

I agree with the above for those owners of a rifle with “cosmetic accessories” prior to the bans effective date, but for those trying to profit on such items after the ban knowing that said “cosmetic accessories” is prohibited then they risk what the state will happily charge them with.

Nobody in their right mind should try to sell ANY kind of firearm in NY, CA or DC.

Agreed.

And a damn shame.
