I ordered a PVS-14 from TNVC the other day and an SDN-6 for my 300LBK, but I have a question regarding using the PVS-14 without the can.
Will the massive amount of muzzle flash from the 8" 300BLK damage the PVS-14 if the can isn’t on the gun?
I envision using the can on the 300BLK 95% of the time anyways, but just wanted to be sure that I don’t take a red hot poker up the rear end in the event I do use it without a can on the gun. Besides, the PVS-14 will be here in a month… the can… well, that’ll take a bit longer.
I just ordered a PVS-14 and I have a 16" DD M4v5. I live in California unfortunately, so I can’t have a suppressor. Will the longer barrel help with the muzzle flash? Will it effect the PVS-14?
The optics should be fine with flash. You have to remember this is a mil type optic most units have an auto shut off if the light source becomes too bright. And also these units are used in the field and combat all the time with multiple flashes going off.
As far as I understand, it won’t shut off if it’s auto-gated. Otherwise, you’re correct. Militarymoron has a video of him shooting with a brake and the NVG he was using was shutting off for a split second every shot…I doubt that tube was auto-gated.
Crazy question, why not ask TNVC? They have great CS and are all shooters…
With that said I took a low light not light class with LMS defense a couple of years ago and borrowed a PVS 14 and ran it on a helmet with my 12.5 SBR that flashes like a small nuke everytime I pull the trigger, no issues that I was aware of.
As long as you use a good FH, you should be fine. In 5.56, A SF or similar muzzle brake, even on a 16" gun will gate you off, or at least white you out. A vortex FH on a 12.7" .308 keeps flash down well enough to use goggles, so a good FH on the 300BK should work fine.
And +1 to on your face, not on the gun…as long as a laser is in the budget, too.
I THINK he is referring to the new L3 CIVIL Class 1 IR Laser unit that should be here at the end of April. It has been reported to be in the $500.00 range but no firm pricing has been released except for estimates from L3 at Shot. Hope this helps.
