NSSF says NICS operational during shutdown

I just got an email from the NSSF (shooting sports trade group) that says that NICS will be active during a gov shutdown.

So let me get this straight. Our military will not be getting paid but the paper pushers at NICS will?

Where did you hear that? My understanding of a government shutdown is that all non essential functions of the government closes but the government will continue to fund all essential functions including the military and law enforcement. That’s the way it worked during the Clinton era shutdown.

They will get back pay once the shutdown is over.

A senior administration official also said that military personnel would continue to earn money, however they wouldn’t actually receive it until the government is funded again. They’ll be receiving full pay checks until April 8.

Thanks for the update.

None of us will be getting paid, but we’ll be at work. Shutting down NICS would shut down an entire chain of commerce. Not even the liberal bureaucrats are willing to weather that storm. :suicide2:

It wouldn’t be wise to shut down a good source of income for the states and government.

We just had a brief, told to expect no pay but we will continue to work. NMC Relief Society better be up and running. Junior enlisted live paycheck to paycheck and they have families, I fear for them. If you know a servicemember, buy them a gift certificate to a grocery store near their house.

And while we WORK without pay, Social Security and Welfare will still be running. I guess I’ll do the work and the lazy’s out there can get my pay.

So people who paid heavily in to a mandatory “retirement” fund are lazy and don’t deserve their money… Ok. Medicare and Medicaid are two different animals as well.

Maybe you don’t know what SS is. It is not a retirement fund in any way shape or form. It is a tax. It is not “their money.”

You still have to pay into it. It’s not like there is an opt out.

People are getting paid back way more than they ever paid in.

Its a ponzi scheme.

Semper…

That’s right, because it is a TAX.

According to Wikipedia

“The Supreme Court has established that no one has any legal right to Social Security benefits.” It is not a retirement fund in the traditional sense. It runs similar to an insurance pool but you have less recourse and no right to benefits.

Chad,

Aside from the email from NSSF, has it been confirmed that NICS will remain operational?

I don’t know. I am not an FFL so have no other sources that would be sending me stuff or contact with NICS myself.

Will the shutdown affect National Guard employees’ pay? Anyone know?

That’s their fault. I tell my Marines as soon as they get here they need to start a savings account/mutual fund, whatever. Over 4 years you can save a pretty penny. Just because your pay is “guaranteed” on the 1st and the 15th doesn’t mean anything.

I can’t wait to see the whales…i mean Dependents at the commissary freaking out because they have no money. As horrible as that sounds sometimes people need a dose of reality.

I’d rather see the entitlement class go without than see a servicemember or their dependents miss a paycheck.

This whole not paying to milatary is the democrates
ploy. The Right are trying to reign in excessive
spending an the Left says no. So Obama says if dont give me all my spending wishes and the goverment shuts down, I wont pay the military. The left shows its true colors. Fuck the working man to pay the lazy and make polical points. Notice they still funding all the wasteful social programs and the social security scam.
