Is anyone else a little miffed on why the NRA has been quiet so far during this debacle? I mean they’re supposedly the number one supporter of the second amendment and have been completely silent as far as I know 
Glad I decided to cancel my membership a few years ago.
Omigod the WORST thing the NRA could do is take a public position right now.

I’m guessing here, but it could be unlike the rest of the “Blood dancers”…Obama, Bloomberg, Moore, etc,etc, They have enough respect for the dead to at least wait until they are buried, and the police complete their investgation before they make any comments…

You are being g way too overdramatic. I agree that the worst thing that could happen is for them to make half baked statements like 90% of the of the other groups and media.
I’m glad you decided being an NRA member isn’t for you. Just remember that if every real gun owner was a member the numbers would be huge and they would have even more sway.
Emotions are running so high right now that anything the NRA would say would be attacked and ripped to shreds by the media, and that would likely fuel the fire of the libs and make any pro-Second Amendment politicians more reluctant to support our position.
I agree, they are no doubt mobilizing their lobbyists, preparing a series of statements and clarifying their position.
Ideally, they will band together with other pro-Second Amendment groups and contact members of Congress as to what another ban would mean in terms of their re-election bids.
Anyone in this forum who is not an NRA member needs to join. They may not be perfect, but they are by far the largest group out there defending our rights, and thus they hold the most sway over Congress.
If the numbers of NRA members would grow significantly in the coming weeks, that alone would create hesitation and give the politicians pause.

Seriously, I’m a member and I’ll be donating on this one, but sometimes having them as my gun rights representative is like sleeping with a fat ugly chick. It might get the job done, but it doesn’t make you feel any better about yourself in the morning. 
Seeing as how just about every anti and media outlet is calling for the NRA’s blood, they couldn’t possibly say anything at this point that would help them.
They, and every other pro-2A organization, are stuffed into board rooms planning out strategies and pulling back door strings. They see a fight coming, and they know that they are going to get pulled into congressional hearings before anything gets passed. Might as well make sure all the ducks are in line and all the hard data is organized.
There is NOTHING they can say that won’t be distorted and used against them.
Any comment on guns, gun rights or the ban will instantly be characterized as politicizing the tragedy and / or furthering their agenda on the graves of dead children.
Any comment confined to expressing condolences to the family and sadness about the tragedy will be characterized as condescension and an attempt to pander to emotion.
There is nothing they can say except “We realize now guns are bad and we want nothing to do with them in the future” that won’t be used against them.
If the NRA was really good at what they do, they would have come up with a good way to articulate their position, and do it in a sensitive way.

FWIW if you guys don’t know simply joining the NRA is doing nothing for lobbying efforts. The NRA-ILA is the lobbying group. You can donate to the NRA-ILA without being a member.
While I understand what you’re saying, my hope is they are letting the dead be buried before making this about themselves or ‘us’…the gun owners. I hope they are waiting until the majority of emotions cool and a somewhat reasonable discussion can be made instead of bathing in the blood like most of the media. This is a knee-jerk society we live in and unfortunately the best solutions don’t usually come from those reactions or from those that react in that way.
Thanks for the tip. I for one will be the first in line to renew my membership or possibly donating as well. I hope others will feel it’s a good time to do the same.

The NRA (I’m a member) can speak whenever they choose. I am sure they will when they think the time is right. As for me, I have made comments on Facebook concerning my Second Amendment rights and I will continue to do so. If this is disrespect than so be it as I am not willing to be punished for a crime I DID NOT commit. Others can do as THEY see fit. That is what freedom to choose is about. That is what this nation is about. If this disturbs anyone or insults their delicate sensibilities then it just will. I will lose no sleep over it.
The number of members matters as well. There may be separate funding for the activities, but the size of the organization is what matters to politicians, because this is about votes, not wining and dining.

Fucking nazi gun owners trying to act like they are sensitive and everything when they know DAMN WELL it is their policies and guns that caused the tragedy in the first place.
Today the NRA released a statement about the Newton tragedy. Though worded as an expression of their condolences their statement is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to wash its hands of the blood of these innocent children. Children massacred by the weapon of mass destruction they lobbied to make easily accessible to all with no regard for the long term effects. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
There is absolutely NOTHING they say that will not be twisted, turned or manipulated by the media sheisters to make them look bad in any way possible. They and most of the other visible pro gun organizations are far better off keeping their mouths shut, letting their members defend the 2nd A in discussions and gearing up their grass roots and lobby divisions ASAFP.
