You guys gave me some great information in response to the less than $1,400.00 thread. In fact, you got me drooling over some more expensive stuff. If we moved the cap up to $1,900.00, what would you get? I’ve looked at Noveske’s site, the LMT complete rifle, the LWRC and Wilson Combat’s rifles. Am I missing anything really good in this price range? Which do you consider best in terms of overall quality?
If a standard carbine will satisfy your requirements, I’d plow the extra $500 into an optic & mount, BUIS, light, sling, etc.
The laws of diminishing returns kick in at some point and the suggestions offered up at your original $1,400 price cap were all quality. The only real other areas to spend on the weapon would be a quality railed forend, a quality replacement stock, folding sights, etc.
I’ll stand firm on my Noveske N4 recommendation. The extra $ would allow you to get a rail if you want one.
Defensive Edge makes some really top notch rifles as well. I have handled their Grail and was really on the razors edge whether I was going to order the Grail or the N4. Sully uses top notch parts for his rifles and puts a lot of care into building them. The Grail is supposed to be one helluva shooter.
Why buy a high dollar AR just to remove stuff you didn’t want/need in the first place? Figure out what you want, buy the stuff at the gun shows, equipment exchange, gun shops, internet, and build exactly what you want, ONCE. I am not rich and can not plop down a couple thousand on a rifle I find. I built this over six months of looking for the stuff, never added up the total cost before but I don’t have any regrets and would build the exact same thing if I had the chance to redo it. The perfect carbine for some can cost a third of this or twice as much. It really depends on what you want. Wes
It looks great! I’m just not real good with my hands. I wish I were, but I wouldn’t trust anything I put together. While I would rather save the money, I would rather rely on someone with skills I don’t have to put a rifle together for me.
