Noveske Switch Block Not Functioning..UPDATED ALL FIXED

UPDATED…ALL FIXED SEE MY RESPONSE LATER IN THIS THREAD…NOVESKE ROCKS!!!

I had Noveske build an upper for me this summer, it is a 14.5" with a Noveske Switch Block. I noticed today it isn’t working. Rifle functions fine but the switch is stuck in the normal operation mode (9 o’clock position). It makes it about half way to the O position (12 o’clock) but will not get all the way and won’t click in place. It is really hard to move to even get it that far. I sprayed some Kroil Oil on it and also removed the bolt carrier and sprayed some on the outside of the tube. I noticed when the switch is being moved the actual gas tube is turning (not sure if it is supposed to or not). I went ahead and did a quick clean on the upper, it was dirty but still has been running 100% percent. I also loosened the Troy Vtac rail to be sure the gas tube wasn’t being pinched and that wasn’t it either.

Any idea why it is stuck? How do I fix it? I did leave Noveske office a VM today but haven’t heard anything yet. Would love to figure it out.

PS it has worked in the past, I haven’t shot it suppressed yet but will be in a few months.

Thanks!
DT

Interesting. What did John say when you called him?

And Todd does spend some time here, he might offer something up.

Left a message for someone that was on the technical option on the phone list, haven’t heard anything from anyone yet. Not worried I know they will call just more curious now than ever after I cleaned it. hmmmmm

Mine does this as well. I have to make sure that I “Lube” the switch and move the lever back and forth. Does it if I run suppressed or not. I just use Slip 2000. I guess that why Noveske came out with the Boot looking wrench.

Hmmmm I will have to check the box and see if there is a wrench in the box

Mine did not come with the wrench, I think that it is an extra. I just lube and move on. I have about 7000 rds through my Crusader Upper and run it on an M16.

The wrench is temporarily out of stock.

My next carbine will be a 12.5" Noveske with a Switchblock.

Because the SB gets so hot it cooks off any lubricant that you had on it. Re-lube (might even use a good lubricant spray to get in there and let soak) and then try again to move it. If the problem persists then call Noveske.

use the supplied wrench. Mine craps up, too sometimes, but I never let it go long enough to get like yours.

If you don’t have a supplied wrench, soak with Kroil, heat with a heat-gun, etc. It is gunked with carbon.

I have began using Froglube on it. Froglube, when it DOES burn off, burns off very clean, and should not gunk anything up. It is also a great penetrating lubricant and seems to suspend carbon very well. I will see how it does. Most other lubes, especially Weapon Shield CLP leave a nasty tar-like substance behind to stick things up, when they burn off.

UPDATE!!!

I found the box out in the garage last night and the wrench was in the box. I had to laugh at myself a bit because when I opened the box there was an instruction sheet for the switch block and it clearly says a few things: 1) don’t lube it and 2) if it is shot in the same position to long it will build up with carbon and become difficult to move, simply use the wrench and move it through its settings a few times and you are good to go.

So I grabbed the wrench put it on the switch block and sure enough it moved it and after a few rotations it was working fine and able to move it like it was new with my fingers. Now I feel like an idiot lol, guess reading instructions is important lol.

Glad I posted here I didn’t even remember the instructions or the wrench.

I would estimate about 2500 rounds through that upper and I hadn’t cleaned it just lubed (Slip EWL) on the bolt and carrier and shot the shit out of it.

Good thing is like I said in my opening post that the rifle still functioned with out issue and even if I had to suppress it I’m sure the rifle would have still functioned just not with the advantages the switch block offers.

On a side note…I saw that GA Precision is now building their GAP-10 (AR10 with any caliber you want) with the Noveske Switch Block as standard. Goes to show how great a design Noveske has if even George Gardner is willing to include it on his rifles.

Thanks for the help guys!

The best thing to do is turn it a few times when it’s still warm after shooting, before it gets a chance to harden and don’t use oil.

Yup…when I found the wrench I found the directions…I think I might have left you a VM yesterday about this. Name David T 630 area code. If so no need to call me back life is good now
