I have spent more time today than I care to share, reading about Recce configurations and barrel choices. I know that I am going with a Noveske upper, and up until this morning, I was sold on the chrome lined Recce 16 low profile with 12" VIS. Well, after reading more, I am finding that some folks have used stainless barrels on their Recceās. I understand that stainless is, in the end, has more accuracy possibilities. (considering ammunition, glass, trigger, shooter, etc)
This rifle will not be a full automatic rifle, but it may see some time with my AAC M42000. With the can in mind, will barrel type matter or be affected. I donāt own the first stainless barrel. All are chrome lined. So⦠advice on stainless Recon or chrome lined Recce Noveske uppers? I know that by the numbers, stainless has a shorter lifeā¦but how much shorter? Are we talking 12K rounds vs. 20K rounds? or more like 5K vs. 10K?
The glass will be my TR21, or Iāll purchase something along the lines of a Leupold mk.4 1.5-5 or 2.5-8.
Iām sorry if this question has been played out in the past, Iām not sure if it has. Believe me, I have done a fair amount of reading today. Thanks for the help.
Iām pleased with my 16" Recon. Very accurate, though not lightweight by any stretch. Iāve noticed Noveske is offering the new Troy TRX Extreme rails with their logo as an option - I imagine that they are much lighter than the SWS rails. 100% reliable so far.
The Leupold MR/T 2.5-8X with TMR reticle is good glass and I like it, but I didnāt pay full price for it either. The MIL/LEO/GOV discount on Leupold is aggressive. At MSRP though, Iād probably pick up a Nightforce scope.
As for stainless vs. chrome lined, I think the stainless barrel is going to last a long time. I wouldnāt worry too much about durability unless you plan a really aggressive shooting schedule for this rifle. Personally, I found that with the precision builds, I shoot fewer rounds in a range session because I spend so much more time working on making each one count.
Thanks for the eye candy! Now I need to decide whether to wait for the VIS/Noveske package to become in stock, or go with the MUR with something like a DD Lite 12.0 or Larue 12.0. I need to call Noveske. The Recon is sold with the VIS 10" and the Recce 16 is sold with the 12" VIS. I wonder if they would put the 12" VIS on the stainless for me? I am also going to inquire whether or not they would IonBond Black Diamond coat the barrel for me.
Hey Stick or anyone else,
What do you guys think about those new American Defense scope mounts? Is there a thread already established about them?
Thanks
The biggest wall Iām running into now is how to put a 12.0" rail on a Recon Stainless barrel with switch block. The answer apparently⦠you canāt.
I was just looking at that hand guard actually. If I trusted myself enough to start cutting on a $300 plus hand guard, Iād love to make a perfect hole in a DD 12.0 Lite.
Itās only been 10 days since the last post but still no Reconās with SB in stock anywhere that I can find. Noveske has been doing really well at turning their āout of stockā items back in stock⦠but the Recon SB upper unfortunately hasnāt been one of them.
I was just at Noveske site two days ago and they did have Recons and they did have switchblocks . I donāt recall if they had one that was both. This was under the complete rifles section, stainless barrels in 5.56. Donāt know if theyāre still there. Be sure and check all sections including stainless 5.56 section with VIS.
Yeah, Iāve checked it daily as I can. They do, like you said, have Recons and they do also have S/Bās, but not paired together. Iāll keep checking. Thanks though.
Probably the best thing to do is call Noveske. If Sheri is over the flu, she will answer all your questions and let you know if they have what youāre looking for or soon will get it.
