Nice looking rifle you got there. A quick range report would be nice when you get a chance.
Thanks, enjoyed building it, hoping to have a range report after this weekend time allowing. Stay tuned ![]()
What gas block is that, with the rail on the top and bottom? Nice rifle!
EDIT: Figured out it’s the Stag standard gas block on that upper.
That is nice…to bad it’s a lefty LOL. Really, nice rig and waiting your range report. I want to buy a piston but I’m waiting to see what Uncle Sam decides on.

I am very interested in how those parts. I would like to get some feed back on that trigger since they are “mil-spec” with FZ coating. Do you know what the trigger weight is?
So I did get to the range, but only for about half-hour to forty-five minutes before I was called home on a domestic emergency ( Fiancé lost her sanity and needed help finding it, before company arrived.)
Rifle shot flawlessly for the 150 or so rounds I got to fire through it, recoil was a little less I think, but I didn’t get to fire it and the DI side by side like I want to do for a true comparison. Hopefully next time.

On the FZ LPK, I sadly don’t have the ability to accurately measure the true weight in lbs. on the trigger. If I had to guess I would say between 4-5 lbs. Feels lighter and crisper than the trigger on my Stag LPK’s which is about 5-6 lbs I think and the Spikes is a little smoother as well ( probably the FZ coating.)
I really have to say I like it a lot. I have bought two other kits since for my following two builds. It seems like a pricey pill to swallow, but if you are going to add the KNS, billet trigger guard, ambi-selector and Ergo anyway it becomes a good deal very fast if you do the math. You get the nice trigger and FZ for free almost ![]()
very nice looking rifle good work it goes together very well…
Don’t hold your breath.
As far as ARs go, the only piston AR that has actual in-roads with the military is the HK416.
Other than that, piston guns are all non-AR derivative.
I plan to switch out the Troy Claymore Brake for a Battle Comp version 1.5 as soon as they are available, and to add the DD Omega Piston Rail and Troy BUIS which should arrive next week to replace the MOE guard. Very happy with the build so far, seems like a solid shooter to replace my 2HTL upper.

Nice gun. Can you say more about the MagPul MOE handguard modification? I own a STAG M8 and did not see a good way to convert a MOE handguard for it. My M8 will be sporting Daniel Defense Omega Rail for large piston after tomorrow (UPS tracking says so). I found the M8 system quite nice so far and am considering doing a 7.62x39mm AR using the CMMG piston system in the near future…
It was pretty easy to modify the MOE hand guard to fit actually. I was going to attack it with my cordless dremmel tool but ended up just using a simple wood file to remove the necessary plastic obstructing the piston. I will take a photo and try to post it on its own thread this weekend. I don’t think I even touched the back side of it, or the bottom half as I recall, just the front upper section around the piston.

#1 MagPul has it stated directly in their 2010 Catalog that all the MOE hand guards are now gas-piston compatible.
#2 Freelance, I’m thinking I’m going to pick up an AAC Blackout, though the Troy Claymore looks like a hulluva comp! Whaddya think of the Claymore?
#3 Why a Battery Assist on a lefty rifle?
#4 Thanks for the terrific pictures and info! :dance3:
Does the the Dust Cover clear the BAD just fine? Any chance it could ever catch?
-
I saw that, but they still haven’t released all of their published 2010 stuff, so I didn’t want to hold my breath waiting on that ( like I am on the MBUS Gen 2’s or the 6.8SPC II PMAGS for many months now. )

Claymore is a excellent comp, as is just about everything I have ever seen from Troy. Having said that, I still pulled it for a Battle Comp 1.0 as it shot just a little smoother and was a bit less heavy than the Troy

I use the BAD lever on both my Standard and Southpaw AR’s for its ability to control the action from fire control, I would have a tough time running one of my weapons without it, I have grown very comfortable with it’s function over the last 3 years. I also shoot both left and right so it is quite nice when shooting right in particular.

Always enjoyed sharing

It actually did not clear the dust cover entirely, I did have to touch the dust cover just a tiny bit with my dremmel tool to allow it to clear the BAD on both my Southpaws.
Thank you Freelance :big_boss:, stay classy , and much obliged :dirol:
