I’m considering building an upper on a Vltor VIS Extended Mid-length upper, and was going to fit a 12.8" barrel with a pinned Noveske KX-3 on it to make the barrel 16".
What are people’s thoughts on running a KX-3 on a setup like this?
Noveske makes a 13.7" barrel for this. At which point why don’t you just get a 14.5" with something smaller and lighter like a Vortex or phantom pinned and get the extra FPS from the 14.5" barrel.
+1,
it’s almost like the BMs with a 5" pinned flash hider. Why rob yourself of the velocity? I would personally hate to have a pinned KX3, only because I would be stuck with it after I realized I hated it.
Regardless of the length issues… I’ve read that one of the barrel spinners said a lot of guys end up sending their upper in to get that heavy hunk of crap removed.
The KX3 doesn’t make sense to me on any realistic barrel length. I’d rather have ACTUAL barrel length instead of heavy thingy on my gun.
The only time I see any real value in the KX3s are when you have a 7.5 inch barrel. And only then because those things are just horrible to be near (No, I have not fired one, just stood next to one being fired). I am still trying to find the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to put what I think was a PWS muzzle brake on one and fire the thing rapid fire while I was trying to zero my A2. In any case, just get a 14.5 and pin the muzzle device of your choice, or if you want the short barrel, get the tax stamp for an SBR.
I’m a big fan of most things Noveske. Not this thing. With it adding around 2.5 inches I’d much rather buy a longer barrel and put on a shorter muzzle device.
I run a KX3 on my 10.5 5.45x39 and love it. Would have no issue at all running it on any other AR. I love the fact that when working close with others it send shit down range and not to the sides.
Absolutely not and I think it’d be a really good idea if it’s an SBR and you can’t use a suppressor. You’ll help save your hearing and the rest of your amigo’s ears as well. Also, take into account that it’d be a really good “Get the fuck back!” tool when planted right in someone’s sternum.
