Not sure if new KAC 11.5 is overgassed?

So I went out and shot my new KAC 11.5” today. I put about 250 rounds or so of American Eagle 223 through the gun. About 80-90% of the brass ejected at the 3:00 position, a few went 2:00, and some were at 4:00. And flew about 7-8 feet away. Is my gun overgassed? This is with 223 caliber, I’d imagine the problem would be exacerbated with regular 5.56. Is this going to be an issue over time? Is this typical for 11.5” barrels? I am using Vltor A5 A5H2 buffer weight.

Other than this, my gun is functioning perfectly.

Let me guess…you’re using that stupid ejection port chart?

You answered your own question.

If 556 causes issues, there are a lot of people who can help, but ejection pattern is not an issue in and of itself.

I’m not too experienced with ARs yet, so if this is indeed the case, then I am very happy. Would anyone recommend I go up to the A5H3?

Going off a MAC video. If the brass is falling 7 to 8 feet away I don’t think it’s overgassed

He had a video where brass was being ejected about 20 feet away and they said that was def overgas. They adjusted the gas and it was about 7 to 10 feet and said it was good.

Others with more exp will comment.

It was definitely not further than 10 feet. I eyeballed it to approximately the same length as the height of a very tall person, roughly 7 - 9 feet.

Good to know! Thank you!

As a final note, does anyone recommend this combo to have on my KAC 11.5? Does the “rail-lock” mounting of the x300 light work with picatinny rails? or is the T-Slot mount a must for picatinny?

People have been mounting Surefire X series lights on picatinny rails for a long time now.

On amazon, they have the “Rail-Lock” mounting or the T-Slot mounting. Only the T-Slot descriptions says it will work with picatinny on a rifle. No mention of that on the Rail-Lock, so I wanna make sure before I buy. The rail-lock is quite a bit cheaper.

No idea about the rail lock, but I think even the Universal adapter worked with my rail sections.

I bought the pressure tap switch from amazon and the x300 ultra with the t-slot from optics planet. Supposedly, the t-slot is more secure for picatinny rails, assuming you dont need to move it from weapon to weapon.

And while it DOES work… its a sloppy fit. Streamlite has a better bulb switch and mount. I own both.

i got the t-slot. i did read some reports claiming sloppy fit with the rail-lock

I didn’t even know you could buy them like that. Every X300 I’ve ever bought has just come with all of the attachments. Don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say that the Streamlight has a better bulb than any Surefire though.

If it works…don’t fix it.
American Eagle ammo is not the best quality or consistent ammo available. I would not use it to determine the tune of a weapon. I run the same Mod 2 upper with an H2 buffer, see no reason to change.

I run X300 Ultras on picatinny rails, mounted at the 12 o’clock position. They are secure and stabile using the picatinny “P” adapter.

My experience and I am sure that of others has been exactly the opposite. The Streamlight switch is actually a total failure and is nowhere as versatile as the Surefire.

Exactly! I have ran both streamlight and surefire on work guns and have only ever had an issue with the streamlights. This goes for TLR-1’s and ProTacs, both of which had failures in the switches and contacts. For my personal weapons I choose to use surefire (x300u and 300 scout), but for work I am issued streamlight. I will say streamlight has had excellent CS.

Like HK said, the P adapter locks it up tight.

Strangely enough a friend of a friend has a pistol he carries with a Surefire X300. During a conversation with him, he told me he liked the surefire but wasn’t too keen on the lock up. I asked him if he was using the correct insert/adaptor and I got the deer in headlights look. Sure enough when we removed it and looked at it, he was using the wrong one.

My issue is I have a big plan of being able to switch X300U-A’s between my G17’s and carbines in case of emergency… So that means keeping the “U” panel in place and occasional loose fit depending on rail.

I am solving that that by slowly upgrading to X300U-B’s with the cross bolt on my primary weapons.

Of course after over a couple dozen X200/300 lights and no failures I have no idea why I bother…

Dennis.

Surefire has phenomenal customer service. I had misplaced a rail adapter for an x300-U. I contacted them about purchasing a P rail adapter. They stated they would simply send me a set. They refused to charge shipping. I thought that was amazing service for a small part I simply misplaced or lost. I have continued to use Surefire lights.

Back to the “over gassed” question. I just ran 300 rounds of 193 through my 11.5” Knights Mod 2. I run a Tubbs flat spring and the KAC H buffer. She runs like a top and is smoother than a parts gun with a Mk18 upper.
