I understand that deploying a rifle that doesn’t accept military ammunition in a combat theater is impossible for the average soldier, but I’m surprised that I can’t find a single article detailing an operator, even a DM, running a 6.5 Grendel AR. Can’t the higher tiers pack their own gear?
I’m sure 7.62x51 can get the job done just as well, and ammunition is certainly much more available, but doesn’t the 6.5 have the weight advantage, since it’s crammed into an AR-15? Can’t you shave off multiple pounds by staying away from a .308 rifle, especially if we’re talking bulky precision platforms? I’ve even read that 6.5 G can actually outperform 7.62 past a certain point, not just in energy retention but also in groups. Is this wrong?
All I’m saying is I find it interesting that not even one guy decided to at least field-test the impressive little round. It’s not like the weapon platform hasn’t been proven; he probably trained on it. If I was engaging targets from 400-800 yards, I would choose 6.5 over 7.62, and I’ve had the opportunity to operate both (if only in a pinch). You wouldn’t be dumping mag after mag in an in-your-face firefight, and you wouldn’t be trying to belt-link it for your SAW. You’d probably be shooting out of an 18-20" barrel, at distance.

There is very little necessity for difficult to support ammunition, with no real advantage over the available and established DM weapons/ammo.
That being said, I would not at all be suprised to hear that some group with a large budget took some over to try out. Those types of groups generally do not share that type of information outside of their community though. Some people in this world still know how to shut their mouths.
6.5 Grendel has never, is not, and will not be employed for any military application. No contracts of any type exist for this weapon system or caliber.
There is no specific application that warrants the use of this caliber beyond that which the 5.56 and the 7.62 already fill.

Bill Alexander is 100% correct. Ain’t gonna happen. and - NO, there aren’t “groups” who can bring anything they want. They still need approvals; safety validations and legal reviews.
If someone tells you they can bring “anything they want”, they are full of it.
Why would you want to deploy with a rifle that you will have to turn into a club once you have burned through whatever ammo you might be able to sneak out with you?
Is the 6.5 Grendel some sort of magic round that fills some sort of niche that any of the other rounds in active military use cannot fill? Is it capable of shooting around corners or something?
I think you’re being a tad overcritical. It was just a question. If you looked at my post count (which is only slightly less than yours), you’d notice I’m new here and probably don’t know too much about Tier 1 military regulations. I even mentioned at the end of my OP that I knew I was gonna be out of line by asking it, but I was just too curious to let it go unanswered. Sorry I ruined your day.
You didn’t ruin my day. You will also not get the answer you are seeking on this forum or any other. Besides if someone did say they dragged one with them some how, they are FOS. The Tier I that you are also thinking of just means an active component that is currently active. Can’t get it anymore straight than that.
