Normal Carrier Wear?

This BCG was basically new with less than 500 round through it. I disassembled the BCG to clean it, and this is what I found.

Now, I’ve seen 1000 stupid threads about cam pin wear, but this seems excessive and accelerated to me. Those gouges are even deeper than they look. I think there was a machining issue somewhere or a burr on the cam pin. The BCG was bought complete and assembled.

Any insight?

What exactly are we looking at here?

The carrier or the pin?

Wear patterns like that look pretty normal.

There also doesn’t seem to be much lubricant at all on either part.

Just like some othe parts ;-), the wetter the better when it comes to the cam pin and carrier.

Totally disagree. If it’s too wet, you can’t get enough friction.

OP - your cam pin looks fine, and I can’t tell what I’m looking at with the carrier, but it also looks fine. There’s really no such thing as indicative wear on these parts… if the gun is shooting, it really doesn’t matter if you get a weird wear spot (and I don’t see anything to suggest you have any weird wear spots).

I have a dirty mind, so I’m guessing the above is a joke.

The parts have been wiped off to more clearly see the gouges in the carrier. If you guys say it’s normal, I’ll replace the pin and drive on.

What kind of lubricant are you using?

Seriously? So friction now helps in rifle function? Pretty sure Clint knows what he is talking about

I’m using Slip2000. The area I’m concerned most about is where the cam pin hits the “peak” in its slot on the carrier. It is gouging, and while it may be common to see wear in that area, I don’t think it’s uniform, nor do I think it’s acceptable. I run my rifle plenty wet enough. I haven’t even done anything more than sight it in and let a few friends shoot it. When I say there may have been 500 round through it, that is a gross overstatement. Probably more like 5 magazines.

I can’t really see much in the first pic. Maybe email the pics to the manufacturer and see what they say?

I have already mailed the BCG to them. They sent it back today. No letter, no, “It’s OK.” Nothing.

Hahahahaha

Ha

My problem is obviously not too little friction, so let’s save that for another debate.

Replace the pin like you said and drive on. Check on it every few hundred rounds. Like Clint said, it’s probably fine.

JHoward,

You followed the forum rules so what brand carrier is it?

From what I am viewing the pic on it is hard to see the can pin channel.

Right. This is exactly what I would do if I bought from a no name company. But I bought from someone who I thought was supposed to be awesome, and I am extremely disappointed that I will have to worry about this. Just saying. I am not a rich man, but I buy quality when I can because I can’t afford to have the few nice things I do have break when I need them. I would never go to a class with this BCG like this because I don’t like being embarrassed, so why should I “live with it” when they could just replace the carrier and pin and I would be elated.

The whole rifle is BCM.

I’ve never seen markings like that on any of my BCM BCGs. Obviously, I haven’t seen everyone they’ve ever made either. How new is the rifle?

Edit-nevermind, I see that’s their cage code.

I have a BCM BCG with markings on the carrier like that. Purchased about two years ago. If BCM didn’t see a problem with it, then they probably consider it a superficial issue.

Yeah, I would assume that they would’ve said something if it was bad.
