I saw this at SHOT at the JP booth, it’s a 3pc kit (upper & lower receiver covers and the front end of the receiver cover) supposed to retail for $225 IIRC. It allows you to use any AR stock, pistol grip, and any FF tube/rail.
I can’t wait to get one for my 10/22. I’d like to set mine up with a low power scope like a Weaver 1-3x or an Aimpoint making similar to my 16" 3gun rifle, use the JP 12" VTAC FF tube, TangoDown pistol grip and a Magpul CTR stock. Mine has a stainless fluted barrel which would give it similar weight to my 3gun rifle.
I guess if you already have a 10/22 it might be an ok option, but if you’re buying a .22 or building one from scratch, an AR15 with a dedicated .22LR upper would probably best mimic a centerfire AR15, for training purposes.
Same here, I accraglass my action into the stock for mine to work best. So I rarely tear it down. I know I should get a new stock, but I haven’t seen one I like until this rig. Grant! How much it gonna be?
I got mine together. I ended up using a DPMS stock (which was free), a Hogue rifle length FF tube and a Weaver 1-3x in a ArmaLite scope mount. It has a Butler Creek fluted bull barrel and the whole thing weighs about the same as my 3gun rifle.
A minor correction, JP is not the distributor for these kits, just another seller.
The AR22 kits are made by Nordic Components, they are a large machine shop in MN that happens to make a lot of parts for JP and have a symbiotic relationship. Nordic came out last year with a line of shotgun tube extensions and have been adding shotgun related accessories to their product line every few months. We are good friends with one of the lead engineers for Nordic and were lucky to get in on the ground floor in early 2007 on their product lines: Nordic Components
The AR22 kit is their first venture outside of shotguns and kits have been shipping for only the last few weeks. Demand is already pretty darn high and is getting higher as images are hitting the net from buyer builds. I imagine it will be several months before demand settles done and there is a good supply of the kits.
Nordic also has several upcoming product launches for new product lines, some will require a FFL interaction to purchase . We will be announcing these new products and adding more info concerning the kits as it becomes available to our forum here on M4: Cactus Tactical’s forum.
I bought 2 Steel Lips, one works great and the other doesn’t which I’ll be returning tomorrow. The rifle is still a tackdriver with the Nordic kit on it, I put about 200 rounds through it tonight.
The best we found currently available are the Tactical Innovations 25 rounders: steel lip magazines. We tested quite a few over the last few weeks and these seem to feed and hold up the best. Given the increased # of options in the 22lr arena, I don’t doubt that there will be some others coming out soon that will work as well or better.
A few cry from when the only option was the Ciener kits and over $55 for a magazine with sharp edges.
Well I got my kit in a couple days ago. I don’t have a receiver extension handy or the rest of the stock hardware so I am waiting for the parts to come in so that I can put mine together. I am going to use a walnut fully inletted A2 stock and the PSG1 style matching stippled walnut grip and a knurled black solid rifle length free float tube. Not sure what optic will be used yet though.
