Noob that has read so much I'm lost...Colt and Sig

Yes, I am very new, like got my first AR about 30 days ago now I have 3. From reading and reading I am really lost. These are what I have and my question is, are these good or just a cheap version of the top line. I know the brand names are good but where do my models stand in the brand line? Thanx for all replies.

Sig Sauer RM400-16B-C

Colt LE6920 (on this one I have read about a “walmart edition”, mine has a white label not the blue if that means anything)

Sig Sauer RM400-16B-EC-FDE

Thank You

Out of the three listed Colt is the best. Sig Sauer I place somewhere up there with Smith & Wesson in that they are good, but Colt is far, far better. No idea what the white label means though, but a Colt is a Colt is a Colt so it shouldn’t be a problem.

ETA: The RM400-16B-C is simply there classic line and is Sig’s baseline AR15 model. Not overly spectacular but a traditional AR15 clone.

The RM400-16B-EC-FDE is basically the same carbine as the -C but is Cerakoted flat dark earth, comes with Magpul furniture and a PMag.

I have over 7,000 rounds through a Sig M400 with zero issues so far. The Colt has a much larger proven track record of course. My Sig experience so far has been great.

thanx for the replies…I understand the brand names as good but were do my models stand in each brand??

thanx

Sounds like some nice rifles, and they should all share the same magazine; buying three rifles is a tough way to acquire mags at this time, but count your blessings.

Learn the platform and enjoy your rifles. There is still an excellent chance that we can stop B. Hussein’s silliness on the subject, but smile at having the good stuff you’ve got.

In the case of Sig, all their carbines are basically the same basic model with different furniture, rails and colors. The only exception is the SIGM400 WELD which is a 14.5 inch barrel with a welded on flash hider. Their two M400 20’ barreled rifles are also just derivatives of each other with different colored furniture.

Well shoot the hell out of all three, I’m talkin classes and competitons. The one that is the most reliable is your go-to.

lunchbox, my daughter and I have been shooting the hell out of them
and all of them have been great. We both have been reading, watching videos, and doing hands on. We also picked up a 1022 Takedown for her and she can’t get enough of it

as for the magazines we got 9 extra 30 rounds (3 for each)

we have had so much fun the last 3 weeks we wish we would have done this sooner!!!

We also got very lucky getting all of this, we paid retail for all. A lot of calling around and being at the right place at the right time.

One particular nail hit square on the head; the damn things are just fun to shoot.
I think that may be one of the reasons the antis hate them so much; in their heart, they know it’s a good time and a guilty pleasure, and they sure as hell don’t want to create more gun nuts with something that is patently fun.

If you are asking how those particular models compare in quality to other models in each manufacturer’s product line, I would say they are just about the same. Neither company wants to have their reputation tarnished by selling crap. You may not get the bells and whistles offered on some of the other offerings, but the base quality will be the same.

Even if the rifles are sold at Walmart does not mean they were not produced on the same assembly line with the same parts by the same people as the firearms headed to the law enforcement distributor. Glock has had different color labels on their products depending on where they were intended to be sold. The pistol inside was identical given the same model and generation as any other pistol.

Welcome to the AR world !! You have probably found out by now why it is the most popular rifle in America- it combines a lot of features that no other rifle has

Now definately get quality training - sooner rather than later. You cannot imagine right now the benefits this will have for you down the road in your ability to effectively use your weapons and accessorize them

Best of luck

What makes the Colt that much better than the Sig?

Sometimes I fear we get too wrapped up in ‘bragging rights’, and it is a particularly insidious thing when the objects we’re debating are so physically similar. This isn’t a ‘Ford vs Chevy’ thing; it’s more like a ‘Ford made at one plant’ vs ‘Ford made at another’.
Gotta tell you that I wouldn’t be too embarrassed to take a carbine course with either gun, nor to go in harms way with either.
Let’s not sweat the small stuff; let’s worry about being able to legally buy and own such things.

Our problem is we live in a small town with nothing around…we live in the 71301 zip if anyone knows of something.

thanx once again for the replies!

First read this thread: Be an informed consumer!

Then read the threads on the following list: AR Technical Discussion FAQ/Knowledge Base Threads

The basic rundown of what makes Colt better is that they use higher quality steel in their bolts, carriers, and barrels; high pressure test and perform magnetic particle inspection per milspec on their bolts and barrels; and finally aside from FN, Colt is the only company to possess the Technical Data Package for the M4/M16 Rifle making them the only true milspec company that sells commercially.

The only thing that the Colt has over the Sig is that the Colt has a M16 bolt carrier group. Some would argue as to wether or not it is really considered an upgrade. I don’t see anything wrong with running an AR15 bolt carrier.

I don’t want to get into a discussion over the merits of a M16 BCG, I am only saying that it wouldn’t stop me from purchasing a rifle with an AR15 group.

M400’s are a fine rifle.

Now that is interesting. You’re saying Sig uses the half-circle carrier, or part of the rear of the carrier milled away?
Oddly, Colt did the half circle carriers at one time, when they were waaaaay too worried about someone trying to make a full auto.

Thanks much. Not that I was too concerned before, but a BCG, buffer and spring aren’t a big deal to swap out. I was really only wondering about the barrel material.

Definitely don’t regret picking up the M400E, especially at the price I paid. A mere $870, before tax, for NIB.

Nice little arsenal there. You should post some pics.

The only thing that makes colt better than sig is there exp. in producing said rifle. The follow a list of requirements as posted on some chart some where on this and other sites.

The only thing that can make onre of the three rifles you have #1 is shoot them. Like a car or any other gadget we own we learn which would never let us down (or least chance of…) and that will be your go to rifle. Colt being around so long the chances that it will be the most dependable is high.

I have a nice selection of coltss, and such, and my never let me down rifle is a PSA Middie on a Rock River lower, Go figure.
