Hello all. So I was cleaning my colt le6920 socom and noticed that inside the bcg where the bolt goes, the hole is a little oval and dented at the top. I have about 300 rds through it, and am wondering if this is something I should be concerned about. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Any guns I have that might be used for defense get a thorough cleaning like this. Not that the gun won’t run dirty, but cleaning this well reveals any potential problems or damaged parts.
^^^This. The size of that opening is unimportant as long as you gas rings are sealing, but since it caught your attention just check on the bolt tail and the area around the recess to make sure nothing crazy is occuring in there. Like most of us stated " if its working no problem".
You’re on the right approach for checking things out and investigating mid-cleaning. In this case that’s just some carbon that’s a nuisance to clean up but won’t negatively affect function. You’re in good shape, not the least of which is that you’re going about this the right way - drive on, keep shooting!

You need to verify if the area in question is caused by nothing more than carbon build up or if its caused by the bolt tail improperly rubbing against the interior of the carrier. If its carbon, its a total non-issue. If there really is an area that began as a circle that is now an oval due to improper friction, id look into further. Have a look at the bolt tail and see if it has any noticeable/unusual wear marks on it. Perhaps im a weirdo, but if I had a brand new 6920 and I noticed significant and atypical wear areas, I certainly wouldn’t let it go. Sure, parts are going to mate, but ive seen carriers with many thousands of rounds through them and they don’t have wear like what is being described. None of my carriers exhibit the oval wear. All these folks that are saying that this is fine, do your bolt tails wear an oval shape into the carrier? Again, maybe im just totally off on this??? However, if its carbon build up, you should completely ignore it and keep on keepin on. I just cant tell what is going on from the pics (tough area to photograph).
If you’re really concerned, take it to a gunsmith.

Me, I don’t clean after every shooting session, but my round count per session is low. It’s too darn hot to stay long…
After 3 sessions or so, I clean my AR.
